I put away the modern consoles to focus on my retro journey. So all I have up is the GameCube and its Game Boy Player. I put the most time into Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Advance Wars 2, Metroid Zero Mission and Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, but here's everything I played.
Army of Ruin is taking over and keeping me away from my retro plans. I have half a mind to pull the plug on my Xbox to keep me away from it but I want to finish what I can first. However, an intervention may be in order. But, I did play a few retro games in the margins.
Around this time, I like to make a list of games that are releasing in the coming year that I’m looking forward to. Of course, this isn’t a full complete list, as there will assuredly be titles announced throughout the year that I may get as well. Over the years, there have been many different types of cartridge software released. Where music and video media (eventually) became standardized, each game system had its own form of storage media. In addition to carrying interchangeable game software, companies tended to make the design and appearance of the cartridges themselves distinctive as a marketing gimmick. Most of us have memories of having game cartridges in boxes, not to mention blowing on the edge connectors when our games glitched out. So here's a brief overview of various game cartridges throughout history. This is not an exhaustive list.
You know what comfort food is, right? It's something that you love to eat that puts you in that perfect mood where "life is wonderful" in that moment. It could be ice cream, or pizza, or something that your mom makes that is your absolute favorite. Well, comfort food could describe other things too, like games. A comfort food game could be one that you are super nostalgic about, or simply that has all the right ingredients that makes you feel like you're playing something very familiar and fun. It's that new game that you took a chance on and said, "This game is perfect, I love this game!" Of course, comfort food games can be different for everyone, but here are some that I think make great comfort food games for many gamers right now. All of these games are available on current consoles. Christmastime is probably the BEST time to enjoy those comfort food games. One of my first RPGs was Ultima III: Exodus on NES and PC. Ultima, along with Wizardry, was considered to be one of the two ancestors of the video RPG genre. Eventually I was able to get a hold of the other games in the series. The entire series is on GOG, including the spinoffs like Worlds of Adventure and Underworld.
I recently get the distinct feeling I'm not all that welcome gaming at my friend's place. Not sure what it is, but the fun is somewhat limited. I may start pulling back from chasing rewards and such, simplifying my gaming and maybe even doing something else. I'm trying to get into this community garden. I've enjoyed making my own food so much, I now want to grow my own food as well. Well, such is life, things change. We'll see what happens. For now, I'm still gaming and mostly enjoying it. Here's what my friend and I did today.
