Too Many to Mention

I played a lot of digital titles this week and stuck with almost none of them (no respawns) but enjoyed myself quite a bit. Also some disc-based ones I did stick with a little longer.

A quick list of the digital only stuff:

Charlie Murder - Neato 2D brawler with gory zombie fights.
A Kingdom for Keflings - Old fav and done everything already.
Mutant Storm Reloaded - Simple like Geometry Wars.
Shank 2 - Totally Metal Slug or Contra. Totally hard.
Risk Factions - Neat update to Risk with faster rounds. Also can play classic.
Final Fight Double Impact - Two arcade FF games.
Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara - Played Tower of Doom but got tired of arcade unfairness.
Dungeon Defenders - I did not understand the menu system at all.
Outpost Kaloki X - Very fun resource management sim.
Heavy Weapon - Side scrolling twin-sticker. Would be great in an arcade.
A World of Keflings - Old fav. Have done everything in it though.
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet - I loved the abstract art style!

Guwange - Ground shmup, I like to call it. Bullet hell but you run on the ground. Haaaaard.
Quantum Conundrum - The narrator is "Q" from Star Trek NG. Like Portal. Excellent. Puzzles break my brains.
R-Type Dimensions - Cool first two R-Type arcade games but hard. I prefer original graphics to updated ones.
Half-Minute Hero - Neat quick-play RPG stories. You got 30 seconds to save the world. Lol.

Call of Juarez Gunslinger - Really solid FPS, arcade style version of the main series, works great! Big booms!
Puzzle Quest Galactrix - Almost got hooked until I observed AI shenanigans again. Really the second Puzzle Quest game not PG2.
Penny Arcade Part 3 - Was hooked for a while. Loved changing into dinosaurs for one special ability. I hate the way enemies gang up on my weakest character all the time, tho.
Lode Runner - Puzzles! Gotta be fast too.
Undertow - Twin-sticking under water. Neat. Better in multiplayer probably.
Panzer General - Simplified version of old war board games like Panzer Leader. Works well.
The Maw - Old favorite I've done everything in already. I want that Maw plushy!

Disc-based stuff:

Skylanders Spyro's Adventure - Tried and failed all the remaining achievements but had fun trying. Most of the achievements are for surviving boss fights a certain way. The game wants to to switch figures a lot, so it's difficult to keep only one going in a boss fight. The evil Sith lords of Skylands want you to buy more figures. haha. Noticeably less detailed than the second game, Giants, I just played. I played Spyro's Adventure mostly last week but finished it this week.

Overlord and Overlord II - Evil Pikmin, I like to call them. Rhianna Pratchett wrote the funny dialog and stories.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing - I love this and knocked off a few more achievements. I played through every mode in the game, bought all I could, and advanced my progress a little more. Probably spent the most time on this game this week.

Bought:

Destroy All Humans 2 ($10) OG Xbox - Had to have physically again. Old fav.

Dawn of Discovery ($10) DS - This is based on Anno 1404. There's another one I have with the same title based on Anno 1701. Can they be more confusing?

Currently playing:

Culdcept Saga (X360) and Lunar Knights (DS). Note that a new Culdcept has just come out (or soon) on Switch 1-2 and a remake of the very first Culdcept game, originally a Japan only Saturn title I've never played. I want!

I believe Final Fight Double Impact had Final Fight and Magic Sword, so not two FF arcade games. I loved both those games in the arcade, though.

I think Quantum Conundrum was made by some of the same people who worked on Portal, but it's not near as good as Portal.

I loved Half Minute Hero on the PSP.

Right now I'm playing mostly Splatoon Raiders and Rhythm Heaven Groove alongside stuff I gotta review.

Oh geeze, you're right. I gotta get back in there and play some Magic Sword.

QC has Portal written all over it. Different, but similar vibe.

PSP would be a great place for it, any handheld too. I don't like being rushed, so I didn't stick with it too long.

Must be busy having to review everything. Too much work for me, too structured. I just want to ramble about games right now and not scrutinize every last aspect of them.

Well I don't do that with EVERY game I play. For instance, you won't see me reviewing Adventure of Elliot or Pokopia, etc.

My gosh, that is a lot! I have not heard of Shank 2 but I do love a good Contra-like. I have always been low-key on the lookout for Dawn of Discovery on the Wii. It's not usually my kind of game and I've been "on the lookout" for so many years now that I don't remember what caught my attention in the first place lol but I didn't know there was a DS version. The DS would be a great fit for that kind of game.

Yeah, I've loved the big strategy games on handheld or console because they simplify the process and give good tutorials: Civilization Revolution, two Age of Empires on DS, and two Anno games for DS and one on Wii - that Dawn of Discovery you mentioned and which I played a few hours of a while back and really liked it.
