So I failed to post one more BaD blog in time. My excuse? Work. I'm drowning in overtime hours. I come home and all I have time to do is watch a hour or two of tv or game and then sleep. I wake up, clean and dress up and head back to work for 12 hours. That's what it has been like from Monday through Thursday. I can't blog with no energy and even less time.
Gaming wise, I finished the main storyline of Batman Arkham City. I found the last battle and the following cutscenes to be surprisingly satisfying and unexpectedly moving. Hearing Joker sing "Only You" over the credits - along with the creepy Silent Hill-like ambience - made the end credits very unnerving. I started New Game Plus and when I last quit the game, Catwoman just beat the crap out of Two-Face and then reunited with Batman. For some reason I feel more compelled to find the rest of the Riddler trophies and buy the remaining DLC packs in the future. Just a damn good game overall.
During the Ultimate Game Sale (on XBLA), I bought Dark Souls, Fallout 3 and Oblivion, all for under $15. Just couldn't pass them up.
On the PSN side, I bought retro-style rogue-like shooter Gunslugs for the Vita. I think Spelunky has given me the itch for the rogue-like genre; previously I wanted nothing to do with it. I guess I just needed that gateway game. Anyway, Gunslugs' graphics style is pretty similar to Tiny Tower or Tiny Death Star. You choose from a male or female character and progress through levels Contra-style as you shoot enemies, boxes, uncover loot and just leave destruction in your wake. It was a decent game for $2 (when it was sale, it's $2.49 now).
For some reason, I felt compelled to turn my Wii on (which I haven't done in months) and purchased $30 worth of points to buy some games from the 16-bit era. I downloaded Final Fantasy II (SNES), Final Fantasy III (SNES), Super Mario RPG (SNES) and with some leftover points (including some I already had) I added one of my personal favorites: Phantasy Star IV (Genesis). I know the SNES version of FF IV isn't the best version I felt that I needed to get it (I have played the GBA remake). I've never played FF III or SM RPG. I played the latter last night and found it to be very enjoyable; not a very challenging RPG but well-written and full of in-jokes. Again, I don't know why I bought all these. After reading that the Wi-Fi functionallity of the Wii and DSi would soon be down, I always felt that Nintendo would soon shut down access to the Virtual Console one day and I had to act.
So, there you have it. All work, little play and my gaming backlog increases even more. Just the way I like it I suppose.
I had to stop reading at the Arkham City spoilers, since I still haven't and want to play that game, so I'll just say I hope you get paid for the overtime.
Oh, sorry about that. I wrote what I did in the hope that I was avoiding plot details, just sights and sounds and certain gameplay moments. I guess I got carried away.
I always wondered what would happen if Batman went to Silent-Hill. Bruce certainly carries a lot of psychological baggage!
Phantasy Star IV is a great game!
I just downloaded Super Mario RPG with Club Nintendo points.
I like it so far. Not very difficult and full of in-jokes for fans of the franchise.
I've been kinda on a shopping binge of all things on the VC on my Wii. Like $120+ of content. I share the same fear myself and this was before word came out that nintedo was killing online support.
Too bad we can't see any price drops, that's the one thing the shop channel needs were some sales offerings like we see on XBLA/PSN.
Not only that but the VC offerings available for Wii U (like Earthbound) isn't available for Wii, last time I checked. I'm not sure they're updating the Wii VC selection anymore.
I noticed that too. I saw that Mega Man VI was available on the 3DS's download store yet I see nothing on the Wii's Virtual Console. If they are not bothering to update the Wii's VC (which is understandable given how it's a last gen system) it would not be too much to assume that support for the VC itself could go away. I mean why update the VC on the Wii when you want more people to upgrade to the Wii U, the last thing I noticed updated on the shopping section is an update for Amazon videos.
