In the 80s, Popeye, who had originally appeared in Elzie Segar's Thimble Theatre comics as a supporting character in 1929, was at the peak of his popularity, with a new wave of cartoons, a movie starring Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall, his own line of canned and bagged spinach, and even a licensing deal with the otherwise unrelated Popeyes fried chicken chain. An awful lot of American, and Japanese, children had grown up with Popeye over the preceding few decades. With that in mind, Nintendo wanted to use the Popeye license to create a video game. At first, however, King Features Syndicate refused to license Popeye to a then-unknown Japanese toy and game company, and instead, Nintendo would be forced to develop its own characters, which would lead to the creation of Donkey Kong, and Mario. As Garth Brooks once said, some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.
Happy New Year! Around this time of year, I like to make a list of games that are releasing in the coming year that I’m looking forward to. Of course, this isn’t a full complete list, as there will assuredly be titles announced throughout the year that I may get as well. Heck, last year we didn’t know about Pac-Man World: Re-Pac until late summer, and that ended up being my Game of the Year in 2022! But anyway, here’s what I know now, for the most part, so let’s take a look at what games I’m looking forward to in 2023!
2022 was...better? Maybe? We got some great games anyway, and the backlog ever giveth, of course. First we'll take a look at the games I beat and bought and then we'll move onto the Golden Hippo Awards!
On this episode of the Pizza Pixel Podcast, my brother Nathan and I talk about our favorite 3-D platformers. It was a lot of fun to talk about and record, and I hope you can click on the link below and give it a listen! I’d really appreciate it, thanks!
Screen shots and goofy video clips from Lego City Undercover, which I am now done with. I said I would take a break from Lego games, but then I dove right into the next chronological Lego game release with Lego The Movie The Video Game.
Another year has come and gone. 2022 was a great year for games! I was able to beat 29 games this year. Keep in mind that some of these were old games that were fairly short (such as the original Castlevania and Castlevania III for NES). There were some standout games this year. I'm going to talk about my favorite games that I beat this year (some of which didn't come out this year, but some certainly did). Then I'm going to give 3 awards: Best Game Collection, Best Soundtrack, and of course, my Game of the Year. So let's get on with it.
Somehow I got in the mood to play some lego games before and after Xmas. So I streamed Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and then got back to scouring the world of Lego City Undercover.
Let’s count down to the New Year with more reviews I’ve written recently at GamerDad.com. Please click on the links and read as many as you can and maybe post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. OK let’s begin!
First up, a flyby of my very modest tiny Xmas train set, then a neat VG relate gift I saw at Barnes & Noble, and then a little personal gaming news.
I'll relate some recent plays and then get on to my current sickness, High on Life, where I took a bunch of screen shots.
It’s the end of the year so you know what that means? It’s time for my “Best Games of 2022 Awards Show!” Keep in mind that this is my list only and no other outside opinions contributed. And if a game isn’t on this list, it either just didn’t appeal to me as much or I haven’t had a chance to play it yet. Ok with that out of the way, let’s begin!
Every time I start up the Xbox I first check for any rewards points I can get by watching videos or playing certain games. This leads me to try a lot of stuff and sometimes find a new favorite. Here's what I played recently before long sessions of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.
I read two new game related comics and set up my toy train set and Christmas village.
Sounds like the title to a story, doesn't it? Well, it's just the contents of this blog condensed to a phrase.
Merry Christmas! I’ve got some presents for you all! Game reviews I’ve recently written over at GamerDad.com! Just what you always wanted right? Anyway, please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. And also in the comments section, give me a pretend Christmas present, and I’ll reply with one for you, too! It’s fun when it’s fun. It can be anything you like, it’s the thought that counts…literally! OK let’s begin!
My brother Nathan wanted to record a podcast with me on our favorite 3-D platformers, so before I do that, I wanted to talk about my favorite 2-D platformers, so that’s just what my other brother Jeff and I did in this episode of The Pizza Pixel Podcast. Please click on the link and give it a listen if you can. Thanks.
Big sale on Xbox the other day. I got several games. Played a few too. Here's all.
I made a list of what I played in 2010. Here they are in chronological order.
A couple of months ago I reviewed the PlayDate, a new handheld gaming device that has a crank on the side that you can wind to control some of the games. The other unique thing about this device is how you get the games. They come two at a time and are downloaded automatically on the handheld each week on a Monday. I talked about a few of them when I wrote my initial review, and then another batch of ten more about a month later. And now I’ve got my final batch of ten from season one, so we’ll go over those as well as my final thoughts on the PlayDate.
So, I've started channels on Twitch and YouTube, as The Low Effort Gamer. I bought a capture card and cobbled together a bunch of other stuff I had.
I played Lego City Undercover to the end, a little bit of Dead Space 2, Technomancer, Battleship and Pillars of the Earth the other day.
I finished with Fire Emblem: Awakening and Disney Infinity. I started free-2-play game Starlit Adventures on a random roll of the dice. I rage-quit Forza Horison 5 and for relief played Microsoft Solitaire Collection and watched a ton of youtube. Sometimes, I get a bit tired of losing at games.
Thanksgiving is coming up, so I’ve prepared for you all a feast of game reviews I’ve recently written over at GamerDad.com. Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe post a like or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. After this feast of game reviews, you should all have nice fat little full bellies when you’re done reading them all!
