Squee! So excited to be able to play this game again! One of my favorite titles for the Saturn and they'll be no need to have to have the 3D Control Pad.
I've tried the demo and it's a real polished title. However, unless you want to play competitively or online often, what's the advantage of getting this as opposed to the original Virtua Fighter 5, which can be bought for less than $15?
That's not to say something like this hasn't been done successfully. Tekken 5 got a digital only upgrade on the PS3 that cut out a lot of the single player modes but added online play.
There's several sub genres to Punk too. There's sub genres to everything. Lady Gaga isn't called pop but ElectroPop. Metal music gets insane with its sub genres though and with that I don't bother usually. In that way, yeah I definitely see where you're coming from.
Thunderstruck!? EPIC! I've never been that good of a guitar myself so that's very impressive.
I noticed this blog went up about the same time also. I read this right after finishing my blog lol.
Progressive Rock is a genre that most people don't understand. They usually confuse it with Art Rock or Progressive Metal or Symphonic Rock or Psychedelia. If it helps:
Pink Floyd = Progressive Rock,
Queen = Art Rock,
Queensryche = Progressive Metal,
The Moody Blues = Symphonic Rock,
The Doors = Psychedelia.
I find the confusion between Prog Rock and Prog Metal strange because they're quite different. For instance, Rush is Prog Rock but Dream Theatre is Prog Metal. Regardless they're all awesome!
I'm a big fan of classic rock, although I just call it rock since all rock music nowadays is actually called something else (emo, indie, alternative, punk, etc). Seriously, the only band I can think of nowadays that can be refered to as just Rock is Kings of Leon.
I noticed that you must be a fan of 70s Rock as most of the bands you listed were from that time. Do you like Hard Rock too, like Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Van Halen? Blue Oyster Cult is usually considered to be Hard Rock too.
You're welcome! I'm glad I enlightened you to the series. I was hoping that would happen with someone.
I checked out the newest episode and I will grant you that she has them. That's about it though.
Honestly, I never thought this would turn into a conversation about Felicia Day's boobs.
Anywho, The Flog is cool!
You know, there's a version of Golden Axe on XBLA already and it's the arcade version too. With that available and the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, the only reason to get this is the filters. Would you recommend it still?
Man, this was a lopsided game. Still, I'm looking forward to playing it again. Sometimes it's hard being a Sonic fan.
You know, I tried the demo for this game and thought it was an okay title. Visceral if perhaps shallow. From your review, it seems like this game fails in its fundamentals. This attack should do this but doesn't. This weapon should help in this way but won't.
I actually have the UNO PGR3 Theme. I loved UNO back in 2007.
It's weird especially since PGR3 was such a successful game. OXM named it game of the year back in 2006. Again, if not the DLC, then at least a listing. So strange.
Although this isn't one of my favorite genres, I know quite a bit more about Punk. The Offspring is a band I enjoy, if maybe from a casual standpoint. I can't deny that they present that bratty pre-pubescent attitude well while also writing good catchy pop songs. Also, Crazy Taxi soundtrack. I mean, forget about it!
Social Distortion is a band I can respect for the reasons you mentioned. You can tell who was a major influence on a guitarist and it changes the timbre of the band's songs. Like how Slash from Guns and Roses was influenced by blues and that set the band apart from other hair metal groups out at the time. Having said that, I'm not familiar with Bad Religion (though I've of course heard of them) and having heard that they have other influences (pop-derived backing vocals), I'll have to check them out.
Being a man who has had mostly women around him from birth, by no means do I think Rock is a man's game. Joan Jett is so kick ass, other record labels couldn't handle her and she had to create her own, LIKE A BOSS! I bet Britney Spears still gets randomly heckled for her cover of "I Love Rock n Roll" (and also for her cover of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction but that's a rant for another time).
I've always casually liked Sum 41 but I really got interested in them during the release of "Chuck." Unfortunately, I still haven't heard the album aside from the singes "We're All To Blame" and "Pieces." Great Blog, Mike!
My favorite Alien game is...nothing because I've never really played one. I tried the demo for the Aliens vs Predator game that came out a couple years ago but that's it. But I'll reiterate: Isn't it strange how many Alien games have been made? I mean for better or worse, they're a bonafide video game franchise.
Cool...sigh...I could never get into this game. The intro is soooo boring. However, I'm glad the game is coming out in HD. It sure is purdy!
Reporter: "Did you discuss ICBM's?"
Reagan: "Well, I did see a BM."
Reporter: "So, did you consider this a successful summit?"
Reagan: "Oh, yes. I summited three times?"
Reporter: "Are you finished with the butt-fucking puns?"
First thing that came to mind.
Those comments are troubling but I hope that's only the direction of a few people. As this is an origin story, I'm hoping for more of a progression. I expect Lara to be vulnerable at first but by the end of the game be much closer to the Lara we know already. I'm not sure if it'll be touched upon but she is an archaeologist. I would like to see her intelligence showcased as well.
As much as I would like to see Lara Croft as a strong female character (I've always thought there was more to her to begin with), if she is reduced to the damsel in distress role, I would accept that with the right explanation. Some characters are in helpless roles but they are interesting if they are fleshed out from a writing standpoint. At the end of the day, whatever their role, male or female, it'll work if they are well developed.
Man. PixlBit's full of metalheads! I'll be honest, I like metal but it isn't my favorite genre of music. However, I thoroughly respect the genre for its complexity and attention to detail.
I've actually thought about blogging about music as well but didn't think this was the place for it. I could nerd out on music just as much as I can with video games. Way to broaden the topic list, Michael!
Not next year, it seems.
I have only bought one PSN title (but that's more because the last time I had a PS3 was in 2008) and it was Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. I know there are good PSN titles but if there's a XBLA version, I will get that one. The ones that are exclusives aren't as plentiful. Not that they're not good, just not a lot.
Oh and the Xbox 360's retail games aren't quirky but there's all kinds of quirky on the XBLA and XBLIG. Seriously, I love XBLA because it's like it was made specifically for me. Old titles, refreshes of genres that have fallen out of favor, and artsy indie games.
Dig the Rolling Stones reference. My favorite band ever!
PSN usually don't have that many good titles but when they do, they're amazing. Another example of that.
I tried the demo and then later rented it and got through I think two or three levels.
I already did. Didn't like it. However, I've heard that 2 and 3 are better games so, you know, there's that. lol
More or less my sentiments. This conference was good merely because there wasn't really anything bad about it.
Good stuff: Looks good, the Batsuit is awesome, the environmental stuff is really cool, and if they use a SIMILAR (not the same) combat system as Mortal Kombat, this will be awesome. Also, really digging how Harley Quinn looks and her dual pistols.
Bad stuff: Premise is basically the same as MK vs DCU but without the realm stuff and the name of the title is extremely vague and bland. How would I know this has anything to do with DC?
Loopholes!
