GameStop Now Accepting 3DS Preorders

Previously it was presumed the 3DS would go on presale after Nintendo announced the launch date.

Gamers in anticipation of Nintendo's next handheld console, the 3DS, will be delighted to know it is now possible to preorder the handheld at GameStop stores.

While there was no official announcement or press release sent out by either GameStop nor Nintendo, it appears that the 3DS was first available for pre-sale the day after Christmas, December 26th. In GameStop computers, the system is tentatively priced for $999.99 as a placeholder until the actual pricing is reveiled, but requires $50 down, at the time of preorder booking.

While there's currently no date set for the North American launch of the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo has scheduled a major press event for January 19th in New York.

I'm currently out of town, so I couldn't visit a physical GameStop to verify this story, myself. Instead, I asked Chris nicely to put in an order for me, and he's informed me that I now have the first 3DS preorder of this particular GameStop. Credit goes to GameFAQs' 3DS board for the tip about the preorders.
