Jak and Daxter Getting an HD Collection?

The beloved PS2 mascots could be getting a 1080p facelift.

While it has been a big year for video games so far, one thing that stands out is the ascendance of the HD re-release. 2011 has seen Beyond Good & Evil, Resident Evil 4, and Ico/Shadow of the Colossus already released, and that doesn’t even take into account the upcoming releases of Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill.

You may be able to add Jak and Daxter to that list, as well. G4 reported earlier today of a Jak and Daxter HD Collection showing up on the release list of South African retailer BT Games. The entry has since been taken down from their list, and Sony has made no comment on the rumor.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was released for PlayStation 2 in 2001, and was the first new IP for developer Naughty Dog since Crash Bandicoot. Sony has been aggressive with the HD releases of their older games, with the God of War Collection leading the charge.

We’ll keep an eye on this and report when we have more information. In the meantime, what classics from the PlayStation 2 would you like to see get the HD treatment?

I'd like to see this actually happen. I really enjoyed the first game, but passed on the second and third due to the drastic change from the gameplay style established in the first. After playing the Uncharted games, I'm guessing 2 and 3 hold more promise than I wanted to give them credit for back in the day due to the style change. I guess we'll see if this comes true.

In terms of other HD remasters, I'm not sure there's any I'd really like. Sony seems to be doing them best, hence my acceptance if this one happens. Everyone else has done a lackluster job, so I can't say I really care if any others happen.

The second and third Jak and Daxter games are great, but they are quite the departure from the original in terms of game mechanics. In all honesty they feel more like Ratchet and Clank games set in an open world environment. With racing.

Speaking of Ratchet and Clank, I'd like to see them get the HD collection treatment as well. I never got a chance to play the PlayStation 2 originals and since my slim system isn't backwards compatible a new collection would be the best way. I mean, they've already done with with Sly, so why not these guys too? And while we're at it, Sony should certainly give Crash the treatment.

I'm not a huge fan of Jak and Daxter, but I'm gung ho on these HD collections.

For my part, I'd like to see Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Ratchet and Clank, and an FF collection with X, X-2, and XII. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus look incredible, by the way.
