That beat is Rare!
Well hello there! It’s time for another excellent community-driven episode of Nerds Without Pants. What does that mean, exactly? It means a bunch of fun, random, bite-sized topics. We are joined by Casey to talk about Pokemon, Drakengard 3, a look at some of our favorite consoles, piracy, and more!
Anything Drake can do Lara can do better!
When it was announced that Tomb Raider was getting the reboot treatment a few years ago, plenty of people – yours truly included – made it clear that Lara should pay close attention to that other tomb raiding franchise headlined by Nolan North – errr - Nathan Drake. The point is many people looked at Uncharted as Tomb Raider for the current generation. The guys at Crystal Dynamics had their work cut out for them if they didn’t want to be square in the middle of Naughty Dogs giant shadow.
Cross-play functionality also revealed as well as a couple new characters.
While rumored for a few weeks at this point, Sony made official last night that PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be coming to Vita alongside its console counterpart. Like many games available on both platforms, the two will be interoperable in a few interesting ways.
The new content comes on March 13.
Fortune Hunter's Club members get another pack of free DLC this week in the form of Shade Survival Mode. While previously announced, the exact release date was unknown. Though free for Fortune Hunter's Club members, the DLC will run everyone else $6.
Vita-specific controls in an Uncharted game are a bad idea.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss marks the first entry in the critically acclaimed series to have not been developed by Naughty Dog. But Sony's Bend Studio has done a fairly good job of carrying the torch to their new handheld system. The bigger problem with Golden Abyss is that it takes every available opportunity to shoehorn in Vita-specific controls, and more importantly, the tale that it tells fails to grab your attention until roughly halfway through.
A gameplay montage of a battle against the Drake Dragon. Dragon's Dogma is set to release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 22, 2012.
Drake's handheld debut is so much more than a recreation of its console brethren.
Drake is capable of many superhuman acts. He can scale nigh impassable rock faces, he can run, gun, jump and punch – he can do all these things without exuding a single drop of sweat and with a clear conscience to boot, despite all the blood he has shed over the years. But all of this pales in comparison to what Sony is asking of him now. Soon we’ll see what Drake is really made of and if he can move the PlayStation Vita off store shelves and into the pockets of gamers.
