OK, I'm done with this!

I've decided to put Lego Marvel Superheroes away for now. After rescuing the last Stan Lees In Peril and finding (most of) the mini kits in each level, I tried for the last 15 gold bricks and my final missing playable character - The Silver Surfer. All of the remaining gold bricks are, unfortunately, flying races. The controls are so miserable that it has ceased to be fun. Much as I would love to get 100% in this game (the completionist in me is openly weeping right now) and my first Platinum trophy, it's just not worth it. Games should be fun, not aggravating to the point you want to throw your controller.

Despite the crappy controls and numerous bugs, I really did enjoy this game. The Lego games are fun and don't take themselves seriously. Many of the achievements/trophies are for really funny things, like turning Mr. Fantastic into a teapot or Bruce Banner into the Hulk fifty times. My absolute favorite Lego game achievement is from Lego Indy - shattering 50 objects or characters with Willy's Scream and Super Scream abilities. She was such an annoying character in Temple of Doom, it was finally nice to see her actually good for something, lol. And in each game there is one hidden level where you get rewarded for destroying absolutely everything, which is always supremely satisfying.

If you've never played a Lego game, do yourself a favor and pick up at least one of them and try it out. Lots of fun playing co-op, too, unfortunately only Lego Star Wars has online co-op. I think they missed the boat there, as there are lots o my friends online that I'd love playing Lego games co-op with and not so many in real life.

Now to figure out what game in my enormous backlog to tackle next...

Yup, LEGO games are fun, but I never try to do the 100 percent completion thing due to all the bugs.

I don't remember the bugs being so bad in the earlier two or three games. Lego Pirates of the Carribean has one that makes getting 100% impossible, as the whole area becomes inaccessible.

I can't speak for other LEGO games, but LEGO City Undercover was 100% complete by me, and I don't recall any major bugs.

Joaquim, was that a Wii-only title?

Posted on December 15, 2013 11:27 PM

A Wii U only title.

Explains why I haven't played it. Might explain the lack of bugs, too.

I found a Stan Lee!

Yea, it sucks that only Lego Star Wars and Lego Indy 2 have online co-op. That's how I played all of Lego Star Wars Complete Saga.

Oh yea, the Lego Movie game will have online co-op too!

Which system do you have Lego Star Wars for?

Posted on December 15, 2013 8:09 PM

Xbox 360.

Posted on December 15, 2013 8:18 PM

Oh! Me, too! C-op sometime?

Posted on December 15, 2013 8:46 PM

Sounds like fun. We'll have to coordinate a time.

LEGO Star Wars was fun when I played it on ... Gamecube, I think. And destroying absolutely everything is supremely satisfying. I'd Love to be LEGO Hulk. His Ultimate Destruction Game on PS2 was great as well.

Too bad about the lack of online co-op. Marvel Superheroes sound like awesome characters for that.

Posted on December 15, 2013 8:47 PM

Yea, what the heck with that. All the lego games should have online co-op, not just two and soon three of them.

Joe, Lego Hulk is one of the best reasons to play Lego Marvel Superheroes! "Hulk Smash!" never gets old.

How many more trophies do you need for the platinum? I'm just curious. There are a couple of games that I am so close, but the requirements are ridiculous. I was obsessed with trophies when they first came out. I don't bother with them anymore though.

Posted on December 15, 2013 10:39 PM

One trophy, Aaron. Just one. But it's the one where I need to have the game 100% completed and that just isn't going to happen.

yeah I gave up on this game too.  I liked its sense of humor, and I love the MArvel universe, but I just didn't find it fun.

Posted on December 16, 2013 11:31 AM

I thought most of it was fun. And I put in about 65 hours before I came to the point where it stopped being fun, so I think I got my money's worth.

Posted on December 16, 2013 11:34 AM

damn, 65 hours?!?  That's more than a JRPG!  That game does have content!

Having so much space for free-roaming was a lot of fun, I probably spent a good chunk of time just roaming around and exploring Lego NYC.

If it makes you feel any better-- I have NEVER bother with getting 100% completion on any game...ever.  The earliest I can remember is Donkey Kong Country and Super Metroid.  I can especially recall beating Super Metroid and being like "What??  I only collected 70% of the total items??  But I spent WEEKS playing this game!"  With all games since then, I might get close to a full "completion", but never 100%.  Nowadays, if I see collecting percentages anywhere in a game, my brain automatically turns off.  Just don't have the time.

That being said, I've been wanting to play another LEGO game (the last one I played was the original Lego Star Wars), but it's on the back burner kind of thing.  I've been hearing that Lego Marvel Superheroes is pretty fun.  And I loooove the Marvel Universe.

Posted on December 16, 2013 12:15 PM

I've managed it in a bunch of other Lego games, this one just isn't going to one of them. I just need to remember that if I'm not having fun, it's not worth it.

Lego Marvel Superheroes is a ton of fun. My favorite moment was when I unlocked Daredevil :)

Posted on December 16, 2013 3:05 PM

I enjoyed the Lego Star Wars Complete Trilogy I had alot of fun and the Story was right on with the flicks great game.

Posted on December 16, 2013 3:15 PM

I've enjoyed every Lego game I've played. Just get a little frustrated sometimes.

Posted on December 16, 2013 5:33 PM

Yes I agree with you they are alot of fun :)

Posted on December 16, 2013 5:32 PM

Oh those flying races are a pain. At some point I will get back to trying to get the full 100%. So far I've only done that with Lego Pirates, and Star Wars III. I've decided to give Lego Batman a playthrough on the 360. I 100% it on the PS2, and I want to see if I can do it again for achievements.

Posted on December 16, 2013 6:02 PM

So much of a pain that I'm not going to bother. I may be OCD, but not that OCD, lol.

Posted on December 16, 2013 9:32 PM

Control issues are a pain.  I quit good games because of them too.  When a game stops being fun, I'm done. Cool

Posted on December 16, 2013 11:15 PM

Games are supposed to be fun, not so frustrating you want to throw things.

Posted on December 17, 2013 7:36 PM

I'll avoid Lego marvel Superheroes and try to find an indiana jones one this seasons. In the meantime I'll ust play Marvel Super Heroes instead :)

Posted on December 20, 2013 3:51 AM

I've been playing it as well, the humor in the game is pretty good but the bugs do keep it back from being totally enjoyable. I wish theses games would just play in three person though like when exploring New York. The fixed camera angles don't really help much.
