Pixlbit Nation how are you doing on this Tuesday morning? I decided to skip my usual Monday morning blog because there was a lot on my plate and I didn’t want to dedicate only a bit of my attention to my latest entry. I had a project that needed to be revised and it took longer than I thought, and I got to spend the afternoon at the car dealership getting the oil changed. The only positive to this was that I had free Wi-Fi so I could keep up with what was going on in the Twitter and Reddit Universe (Their big TVs were airing reruns instead of the news coverage going on in Baltimore) so the Internet was keeping me up to date. Anyways over the weekend I spent time with just a couple of games, and the majority of that time was with one tablet game.

Mortal Kombat X – iPad

For the past week this game is the main game I’ve been playing on the iPad, even with all its problems I really want to finish going through all the towers before the developers add to it. Currently I am here

And I have nine towers to go before I can say I finished it. I don't know why that these towers don't get destroyed like the previous towers.

There really isn’t a story mode, just going through towers where the characters get a little more difficult. Its actually manageable and if you leveled up your fighters you should be fine. The boss battles are a bit tougher but if you block you should be ok.

One of the new features I’ve used a bit is the Ally fighter

Before your fighter you can choose from your friends list or from the MK Universe of a select list of champion fighters. The champion fighters are usually the best fighter in your collection that you designated as your best fighter. During the fight your Ally takes I think 30 seconds to charge up and when they are ready their icon appears on the bottom of the screen. They can only be used once so I save them for the toughest of the three fighters. Usually their attack knocks them out so it makes the fight that much easier.

This is my fighter. I’m using Cassie Cage, the unlockable character from the console version. She was my first Gold Fighter so that is why I’ve upgraded her stats. Since then I’ve purchased six more gold fighters and I’m trying to build up the stats for the two different Kenshi characters. I’ve learned from WWE Immortals and InJustice is that you need strong gold level fighters to progress in the later towers.

This is my current “Kollection” of fighters

I don’t have a lot of silver level fighters because I tend to spend the in-game currency on upgrades. I really should get more silver level fighters but that will probably happen after I collect all the gold level fighters.

Since I’ve played a lot of this game there have been quite a few problems that I’ve encountered. The first being one that the game doesn’t connect to the online servers after fights and I always encounter this screen

The main hassle with this is that I should be receiving 100 silver coins per match but since it doesn’t connect, I don’t get this reward. The silver coins can be used to purchase these one-card packs that contain anything from armor cards to gold level fighters. I’ve lost at least 3,000 coins because of this.

The other problem I have with this game is that there are still some sections of the game that do not work. The stats screen along with the change picture sections are still coming soon. I like my fighter card on the console version and I’d like to have it on the app version.

I do like Mortal Kombat and I am enjoying the game but their needs to be some updates to fix the problems with the app game. I like being able to unlock items in one game and it affects the console game. Just from playing the tablet game this past week, I’ve unlocked quite a few icons in the console version for my fighter card.

Mortal Kombat X – PS4

So I bought the pre order card from Target where I got a code for Goro. When I bought the game and the Kombat Pack I typed in my Goro code but no Goro. It appears in the store but when I click on it, it says “No content available.” Is this happening with everyone else? After I finish typing this up I should check the downloads on the PS4 just in case its there.

As for the game itself, it is all Mortal Kombat goodness, but I really need to figure out the combos and moves. I finally got Kitana’s Fatality to work and I am seriously thinking about spending the $5 for the easy Fatality unlockable.

WWE Immortals – iPad

There was an update to coincide with the latest WWE Pay Per View, Extreme Rules

In the game Extreme Rules is the new multiplayer feature where you can earn exclusive items for your fighters. I probably won’t try this because I know a lot of folks who use the exploit probably have super fighters with maxed out stats, and I’d get my lunch handed to me. This special event is only going to happen until the end of the month.

The update also added two new fighters, Big E from New Day, and the Ultimate Warrior. Both fighters have three different cards, one each in the Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers. Also added was a new set of levels. I’m currently playing through the first level and it seems like it’s a gauntlet of all the fighters but they only have two cards.

My Triple H lineup is working fine, and with each battle you earn a ton of XP and around 1,200 of in game currency.

I also completed the tournament for this week and unlocked the Skull King Triple H

At some point the WWE needs to get the license for the Terminator so they can include Terminator Triple H from the last Wrestle Mania.

In non fighting game news:

Asphalt 2: While at the dealership yesterday I played more of the game, trying to get to the final cup, and I think I am halfway through the cup before the final cup. I need to hurry up and finish it so I can move on to another 3DS game.

NBA 2K14 – PS4: The Runnin’ Griz ran into some trouble against the Lakers. The Lakers countered my frontcourt of Horford/Randolph with Gasol/Kaman and kept the game even until halftime. In the second half it came down to bench and having Jerryd Bayless and Giannis Antekounmpo come up huge sealed the win. I moved Giannis from SF to SG because I wanted tall athletic backcourt and at some point I want a startling lineup of Conley, Antekounmpo, Evan Turner, Zack Randolph, and Al Horford.

Simpsons Tapped Out: There is a new multiplayer event going on but I’m not excited about it. The storyline is Sideshow Bob’s brother is genetically altering food and you have to tap on the walking corn, and place these blob things in other people’s Springfields.

I’ll see if there are any new buildings other than the old Simpson farm to unlock to get me into the game.

Games I removed from the iPad: I removed the speedboat version of Driver because in reality to actually progress in the game I had to either grind the hell out of it just to earn enough cash just to advance and find my current boat useless and the process started over again, or pay actual money. There is no way I’d spend money on this game so it’s gone.

I also removed Fast & Furious for the same reason and also because of this

$20 for a car and some gold? You have to be freaking kidding me. I’m sorry but this is the reason why nobody takes tablet gaming seriously. Developers have either become so lazy or greedy that feel that produce a half ass game, and then charge for content that should have been in the game to begin with. If they wanted to make some cash, make a decent product and charge for the game. I spent $7 on the tablet version of Need for Speed Most Wanted. It wasn’t a great game, but I enjoyed it. Hell I spent $2 a shot on each of the Angry Birds games. At this point I’d rather give my cash to some indie developers who make a decent product rather than actual cash to these freemium piles of crap.

The final item I wanted to touch on was an app my cousin showed me over the weekend when we had a family get together. The app is called Loot The World

I had no idea about this app and my cousin explained it as you scan barcodes and QR codes, unlock weapons, and you can send them to your Borderlands character’s backpack.

He was scanning the bar codes of the Hot Wheels cars that I gave to my younger cousin, and he was coming up with some decent weapons. I decided to whip out my Vita games to see what we could get and there were a couple of games like Angry Birds, the Lego games, Madden, and Little Big Planet that had some expensive weapons.

The app has an inventory where you can store up to 20 items. To send the items you need stamps, and these can be earned by scanning bar codes or like what we did, scan the QR codes in Google after looking up “Loot The World Stamps.” So far I’ve made at least a million bucks and because of this, I’m thinking about jumping into the Borderlands Universe again with a new character, and a bunch of cool toys and cash.

Oh before I go did anyone watch ESPN2 on Sunday Night when they were showing Heroes of the Dorm?

What are your thoughts about this? I like video games but I don’t think it belonged on ESPN because playing video games is not a sport. I didn’t care for video games on ESPN especially when they would air The Madden Challenge. Just like the Madden Challenge I watched and the game does look fun, and if you follow me on Twitter I made some comments about it. Will watching this event make me get a high end PC? Probably not, but I do appreciate that people love this game and devote this much time to it, I don’t think these events should be on a network that is dedicated to Sports Programming. This would have been perfect for something like TWiT TV, or that old video game channel that used to be on Direct TV (oh I miss that show with Tina Wood, and the two other people talking about video games, and the other show X-Play.) Enough rambling about an old channel. So what do you think? Should competitive video game matches be on TV?

Alright Pixlbit, I must be off to work on another project. The Hummingbird neighbor’s eggs hatched and I’m trying to take a picture of the babies (no touching, and I have a decent zoom lens.) Have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

Don't like Free to Pay games (nope not a typo).

We want baby pics! Hope you can get some.

Yeah I'm starting to shy away from most of them. There is no point in playing them if the pay portion hinders your ability to progress in the game. At least with the fighters and some runners, you can still enjoy what you are playing.

It is so hard getting pics of those babies. I might have to go step ladder and maybe a point and shoot to get somewhat close enough

I can sort of imagine playing a fighting game on the iPad and I'm not terribly crazy about the idea.  But then again, who knows, it might be fun!

I would like to play the new Mortal Kombat, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be very good at it.  The part of me that is still a teenager is excited about the fatalities though.  "Finish him!"

You know the fighters on iPad are not that bad...except for the Street Fighter one where I thought it was tough to control. I use the right thumb to tap and swipe and the left thumb combined with the right to block.

Oh I haven't been really good at a MK game since MK II, so I'm still learning the ropes of certain characters. I think this could be why I'm drawn to the tablet version because there are no crazy controls just tapping and blocking.

That Borderlands app certainly is tempting.

I like it. I'm scanning new games I bought but I haven't jumped into scanning the rest of my games or CDs.

I'd be all over that if I had a smart phone. Gotta get one of those sometime.
