To celebrate the recent release of Kirby Star Allies for Nintendo Switch, let’s look at another Kirby game that came out earlier this year that I just now got around to playing. It’s Kirby Battle Royale, a 3DS game featuring four player battle style mini-games with Kirby and his different copy abilities. There are ten different types of arenas to battle in, and they’re all pretty interesting enough to be deemed ‘blog-worthy’ by me, so let’s take a look at them! Also be sure to stick around to the end, as I’ve got some news about HAL Laboratory (creators of Kirby), and their first new mobile game!
Got the following games. What is it will old games holding their value at Gamestop these days? My current theory is that because people are buying digitally instead of physical, there are less trade-ins and so prices go up for what Gamestop has in physical copies. The theory doesn't seem to fit for last gen games though. I'm paying like $10 a game right now and they should be more like $5. It's annoying to me. Here's the list for today:
It seems to me that this month it is about Bloodborne.
I was playing 1981 games on Midway Arcade Origins, backwards compatible Xbox 360 game on Xbox One, when I discovered Satan's Hollow listed as '81. No matter that wikipedia says '82, I'm going with what the collection says. So I played it and thought it was good.
Well hello Pixlpeeps, long time no type. After BaD I decided that it would be good to take a week to not write anything because 1.) I wanted a little break and 2.) I really didn’t have much to write about. During this time I started to cross off another goal for 2018 and I made my way back to the gym. Oh it feels good to spend time on the treadmill zoning out to whatever is on the phone, or watching video on my tablet. It feels good to wake up and head straight to the gym in the morning instead of watching the $25,000 Pyramid until the alarm goes off. Anyways more on this on Friday. Today is about what I’ve been playing and I have to say there hasn’t been much but I did knock one game off of Mount Backlog which is always good.
After playing several other games on Atari Flashback Collection Vol. 2, I looked around for other 1981 games I might have missed and found Stellar Track for Atari 2600. I'd never played it before, so decided to give it a shot. I nearly gave up at first because it seemed too complex but I stuck with it and found a fun game.
Football is over, the Olympics are over, March Madness has yet to begin, the weather is nuts, and we've entered the early spring doldrums. But hey - videogames. I've decided to go back to Final Fantasy XV and try to finish it, and while I haven't started yet, I downloaded the update to it yesterday and it was 20 gigs. Holy Moly. That better be some good shit.
I came to my office to post midterm grades, but apparently the university's website is down for maintenance, so I guess it'll have to wait.
Konami's arcade game Strategy X is one I never saw in the arcades or even knew about until I saw it on Game Room on Xbox 360. I'm thankful for Game Room bringing a bunch of Konami games I never heard of.
Just a short gaming session today. Got some retro action in on Activision Anthology and then played Minecraft with Mark for a while.
I started Yakuza Kiwami recently and I don't know if I like it as much as Yakuza 0. Part of it is I lived through 2005 and it's no 1988. Part of it is I haven't done near as many side missions/activities five chapters in as I did in 0 only two chapters in.
All I know is I'm suddenly grateful I haven't played the new South Park game OR Okami (I know!) so I can finally enjoy these at last on the wonderful Switch. Otherwise what I'm most hyped for is Octopath Traveller, which was a really cool demo, and I might even buy the Crash Bandicoot game AGAIN so I have it on handheld. There were a couple other announcements that pleased me as well.
I had an interest in playing multiplayer today so I jumped in Mark's Minecraft game. Then I played some retro arcade games on Midway Arcade Origins and then more beautiful button mashing in Odin's Sphere.
As thundersnow boomed outside, Mark and I gamed it up. I did some retro '81 games and challenged Rangergirl again in Pinball FX3. Then the power went out and I switched to 3DS and ran a dozen Miis through the gauntlet of Mii Plaza games. Then, when the power came back on, I got into Odin's Sphere Leifhrasir in a big way the rest of the day.
It's Wednesday. Two more days and I'm done for SPRING BREAK. Sometimes I think I enjoy this more as a professor than I did as a student.
More than just Activision's Stampede for the Atari 2600, I watched the 1981 film Clash of the Titans and listened to the 1981 Kraftwerk album Computer World.
I will admit to consulting a guide on Clossus #3 in Shadow of the Colossus. This one I felt kinda bad about, because the answer was fairly obvious, but I got tired of the hints constantly saying to knock off the guy's armor and me saying, "I GOT IT! I HEARD YOU! I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW I DO THAT!" I learned later you can shut those hints off, which, thank God.
February is usually a bad month and I’m ready for it to be over. But this year, February wasn’t TOO bad for me, but it’s still nice that it’s March now and we know Spring is coming soon. So to celebrate, here’s a new blog with game reviews I’ve written recently over at GamerDad.com. Please click on and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a like or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. OK, let’s begin.
Disney Infinity 3.0 was mostly about Star Wars and took from the movies and TV shows. There was an Inside Out playset, Marvel Battlegrounds playset and a Finding Dory playset. Also there were single figures to buy from franchises like Mulan, Jungle Book and Tron: Legacy, just to name a few. I started out with just the original series Star Wars figures but soon ended up getting almost all 46 of them.
Sometimes after BaD, I'll do my own little thing where I just log any gaming I did during the week and call it Game Log a Day. Almost no one participates (I think coolseltzer did a year or two, but I'm not remembering who else) and it doesn't have the cool history behind it BaD does, but I do it.
Sometimes I have dreams at night about imaginary books I've apparently written in other universes. Last night though I had a spectacular one about a book that I'm inspired to turn into reality. It's called "An American Sebastian" and is inspired by the old TV show cartoon "Belle and Sebastian". In it, a young man is searching the world for his mother, who has disappeared for some reason (she's not kidnapped or anything, he knows she's on the run for some reason). I don't know how I'm going to incorporate the dog side of the story, but I know he will have a dog, and over the course of the novel, the dog has its life and finally passes away, all while he's looking for his mother. I'd like to write about the relationship about a man and his dog from adoption to the dog's death.
I tried out Battleborn today, watched Mad Max Road Warrior (movie from '81), played Wizardry a lot and the got back to my rental, Odin Sphere Leifhrasir.
I didn't have a NES growing up, but my best friend at the time did, so I spent almost every afternoon at his house playing his NES with him until it was time for me to go home to dinner. I'm pretty sure his parents got tired of me hanging around so much.
