Hurrying to complete last week's gaming before the next one starts tomorrow. I played a bunch of virtual pinball and a few regular video games last week.
When I was a kid back in the 80s, there were a couple of years when I was really into the Transformers toy line and cartoon. Many years later when my brother Ben was a kid, he got into Transformers as well. So I thought it would be fun for us to talk about them in this episode of the Pizza Pixel Podcast! Please click on the link and give it a listen if you can!
I finally got my new recording studio set up, and this is the first video I've made in four months. It covers the recently released Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life for Switch. This is a remake of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, my first farming sim and one of my favorite Gamecube games. The re-release remasters the graphics and sound, and combines elements of the Gamecube releases (which were two separate releases for male and female players) as well as the PS2 Special Edition (thankfully not the jankiness of the PS2 version).
80s retro gaming is the topic today. Here's what I played last week (or earlier this week) on various collections I have.
Breaks in gaming for TV time were full of 80s robots this week (This blog is in multiple parts because I also played a ton of 80s games and did my usual multiplayer and random plays).
I'm slowly creating a list of 80s retro stuff I want to revisit. This is for 1981.
Around this time of year, I like to make a list of my best games SO FAR, because usually the AAA titles are released later in the year during the holiday season, and the titles that came out earlier tend to be forgotten. So here’s when those games get their due. Keep in mind that this is my list only and no other outside opinions contributed. And if a game isn’t on this list, it either just didn’t appeal to me as much or I haven’t had a chance to play it yet. Ok with that out of the way, let’s begin!
Alongside gaming, my gaming buddy and I watch some cheesy TV. Last month it was Thunderbirds, and right now it's Ultraman Returns, the 1970s Japanese TV show that revived the Kaiju craze in Japan. The show is in subtitles, but it is really fun. Just like Thunderbirds, there are tons of real model sets, vehicles and planes for the special effects. And then there are the wrestling matches between Ultraman and the Kaiju of the day. Each episode shows off another kaiju, and the Blue-Ray collection has a Kaiju Roll Call booklet. Here's the first batch we been watching.
It's almost July and I'm going to focus on the 80s in gaming for a month. Here's what I'm interested in for 1980.
Got a late start, so I'm moving fast through what I played this last week.
I’ve got a new batch of sweet and sour reviews I’ve recently cooked up over at GamerDad.com! Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. Ok grab those chopsticks and let’s dig in!
Only three games this week as I played EDF 2025 to the point of exhaustion, but I'm done with that for now.
In my year-long project, June is 1970s month. In video gaming this means Pong, Atari 2600, arcade games and various LED handhelds.
In case you haven’t noticed, Mario is pretty big right now. Well, he’s always been big, but this year his new movie hit the billion dollar mark, and a Mario theme park just opened up at Universal Studios Hollywood. So in this podcast, brother Jeff and I review the movie and I talk about my trip to Super Nintendo World!
I played a little bit of several titles, but what I mostly played was Earth Defense Force 2025 with my friend and an assortment of randos.
Went to Fan Expo in center city Philadelphia on June 3rd with a friend of mine who was after celebrity signatures. I met several, plus comic creators and a lot of cosplayers.
I couldn’t think of a creative title for this GamerDad.com review dump blog, so I’m quoting Bluey. Bluey is an awesome kids show that is so good that I sometimes forget it’s a kids show. You should watch it if you get a chance. It’s on Disney+. Anyway, here’s a bunch of reviews I’ve recently written over at GamerDad.com. Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. OK let’s begin!
I briefly touched on a handful of games and then my friend and I got back into Diablo II for a good long time. Finally, I dug into Horizon: Zero Dawn on my PS4.
I was watching the 1960 Fellini film La Dolce Vita the other day and came across a classic line from the Super Mario Bros. games. Just coincidence? Who knows. Do you?
