So you know how the Mario Bros. are plumbers and they fell into a pipe that led them to the Mushroom Kingdom? Well, I work in the plumbing department of a major hardware store, so I guess the same thing happened to me! So in this blog, you’ll read all about my adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom, and how I was able to defeat Bowser three times in one morning. Take that, Mario! So yeah, I went to Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood a few weeks ago, so here’s my detailed account and experiences of the whole thing.
I forgot to mention three other games I've played in the last few weeks, F1 '22, Star Wars Squadrons and Screamride.
Wed/Thurs is my weekend right now, so that's when I do most of my gaming. This is what I did this week.
I grabbed all the rest of the Outlaw Nation comics in the bargain bin to see what other game ads might be found. There were a good number of them. Here are the 1-pagers.
My friend and I started playing this a month or so ago and haven't stopped since. Let's see the evolution of my Necromancer over time as I acquired new gear.
Oh boy, this one was a tear jerker for me as they told the backstory of Rocket Raccoon's harrowing past as a laboratory animal. Otherwise, it was enjoyable.
I almost missed this because I wrote the wrong release date down, but a co-worker set me straight and I dashed out to see it before it was out of the theaters. I'd say I liked it mostly, but there was something that just seemed flat about the performances and story to me. It was a sight to behold though, I'll give it that.
Sneaking in like a ninja, here are some game reviews I’ve recently written at GamerDad.com! Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. OK let’s begin!
This is what I picked up last time I was at Classic Game Junkies. I'm also including an item I saw there but didn't buy.
I saved the 2-page ads for this blog. There were a lot of them. 2-page ads are always super cool. I love finding them.
I found a few of these print ads one day, and then I hit the motherload with a comic called Outlaw Nation. This comic had five or more video game ads per issue. I photographed them all to share here.
I funny thing happened on the way to my Switch. A friend I hadn't talked to in years texted me and started a conversation about Animal Crossing. Turns out he'd been playing it during the pandemic. We friended up, I visited his island, and he mine. The whole experience was really cool.
I just finished the last issue of this Witcher comic book story arc. I wasn't all that thrilled with it at first, but its ending changed my mind.
I saw this the weekend it came out on IMAX. I enjoyed it quite a bit from story to cast to music.
Oh, the strange stuff I find on Game Pass every week that turn out to be another obsession. This time it was indie game Loop Hero. Check it out.
I played this on Game Pass a while ago and beat the main story, but I didn't do any major work on the collectibles and other tasks thinking they were too tedious. A challenge for Microsoft Rewards points brought me back to the game, and I found most of the side missions and collectibles not as difficult as I thought and nearly cleared everything in the game.
It’s time to clean up with some reviews I’ve recently written over at GamerDad.com. Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d really appreciate it. OK time to start cleaning!
I'm a big fan of the Pikmin series. My eyes are always on the lookout for games that use its minon-controlling mechanic like the Overlord games or Hotel Transylvania 3: Monsters Overboard. I even try and shoehorn that mechanic into games like Diablo II. The Necromancer character lets me command groups of skeletons and golems. So when TinyKin appeared on Game Pass one week, I had to play it.
Quite a few actually in the last month or so. I had some rewards money from Microsoft, and I'm working on a new game plan and needed some games to make it work.
I'm a big fan of developer People Can Fly, so when I saw that this game was theirs, I jumped on board. I bounced off it a few times initially. I liked it but the feeling of the controls felt slightly off to me. I tried adjusting the speed of the analog sticks, but it didn't quite work. When I decided to really dig into this game, I figured it out.
Random is one of my favorite words thanks to DnD, and so I was immediately intreged by this addition to Game Pass a few months ago. At first, I was frustrated with it, thinking there would be more random elements, or dice throwing, or something like that instead of lots of dialog and story, like there is in the beginning of the game, so I stopped; but, I tried it again a few weeks ago and got way deep into it. It's a pretty fantastic game.
Most of you know that I generally prefer to play family friendly games. That’s one of the reasons why I write at GamerDad.com! But I am an adult and sometimes I like more ‘grown up’ games, too. So that’s what this podcast is all about! Granted, I had to stretch a bit for some of the games on my list, but I think it’s a nice contrast to what I usually talk about. So here’s me and my brother Jeff talking about our favorite Mature video games.
I've seen several of these "Comic Book Story of" books lately. I've read one on the history of pinball and now this one on video games. It's surprisingly good and enormously fun to read and see.
