Before we get started today, I wanted to spotlight a really great article by Playboy Gaming (Yes, THAT Playboy) interviewing competitive Street Fighter player Ricky Ortiz. Its a lovely piece shedding a light on a often forgotten corner of the FGC, plus Ortiz is a rad player that doesn't get enough props.

As much as fighting games are interesting characters, they would be nothing without the players who play their games. Fighting games have a long and varried cast of characters who act out there roles. For me, the one who is my favorite has to go to a Street Fighter player, Kennith Bradley aka K-Brad. K-Brad is easily one of my favorite players of Street Fighter IV and one of the top Cammy players in the game. The way he does pressure with her is simply fantastic. Cammy is a extreme pressure character, meaning you have to be on your opponent. K-Brad does this with a signature style that's tough to read and react to. That's makes him so dangerous.

But on top of that, K-Brad is still one giant nerd. He's goofy and fun. He kind of reminds me of the better aspects of competitive fighting games.

Who are your favorite fighting game players to watch?

Wait, was that second clip SGC? I may have been in the crowd for that ...

Only thing is I was always a Vega player growing up and never really had Cammy to play as since we had SFIITurbo on SNES.

If I am able to rent SFV next Wednesday from Red Box, will you play a round or two w me? I'm JimBeamHortonWho on PSN.

The Second clip is from a tournment in Orlando, Florida called Community Effort Orland (CEO for short). Its a really good tournament to watch, especially in recent years with these goofy and fun intros for top 8 challengers in each tournament.

I'll be gladly to play you. Just a note, in SFV, you make your own SF ID that's differnt from just your PSN one. Mine is VicesAstnt.

Well I don't know any famous Street Fighter players, but back in the arcade days when I was in high school, my best friend was really good at fighting games and I liked watching him play sometimes.  I could never beat him, except once when we first played Super Street Fighter 2 and I picked Cammy.  That's how I decided who my favorite character was.

You know, I'd love to write for a magazine, but I don't think Playboy Gaming would be a good fit for me.  Just a hunch. :)

Playboy periodically has really good articles though beyond just gaming. They used to publish short stories back in the day and quite a few famous sci-fi writers had their short stories republished in their pages. A strange place to publish it certainly.
