Ratchet is hard

Maybe I havent played platformers or shooters in quite a while, besides maybe Fortnite, but I was surprised at how bad I was at playing Ratchet & Clank. Geezus Krist!

I think its the lack of shields or regenerating health and finite ammo. It feels more old school shooter than modern day and I'm alright with that. I just wasn't expecting it to be challenging at all. The adorable art style is very misleading. I thought of playint it to relax from Bloodborne, but I was playing Blooodborn to relax from Ratchet. I'm almost finished with the game since it was free on PS Plus, and it's very good. I haven't played a Ratchet game before but I like the old school platforming and movie-like presentation.

Did you play Ratchet this month? It's pretty good!

I played it. I almost platinumed it but for a couple of the races which I didn't want to spend the time to perfect. I want to go back to it and try and get that platinum though. Oh yes.

I hover board races are pretty tough. I only managed a silver, but that was enough for me.

Same here. I think I got gold on one of them maybe.

All I know is Ratchet and Klank fans tend to be diehard about it. I don't think I've ever played one myself, but they look fun.

You don't have PS Plus? It was free in March. Its been a long time since I've played a 3D platformer, and this has a variety of guns, so it's kind of a hybrid game. Kind of reminds me of Mega Man Legends. Its also one of the best looking games I've ever played, and the soundtrack is very good too.

The Ratchet and Clank games are pretty hard!  I've beaten most of them, but I don't remember if finished the first one.  It was especially hard because you had less energy to take hits.  But the Ratchet and Clank games were some of the best 3-D platformers of the PS2 generation.  No disrespect to Mega Man Legends, but the R&C games are what a 3-D Mega Man game should've been.

Ratchet is basically Mega Man in 3D. The world and guns and boss fights feels like a better realized MM Legends. At least the checkpoints are forgiving.

I think I bought this during Black Friday. Fun game but you have to constantly move around. I think the only trouble I had was at certain points when timing was an issue. Keep with it, its a fun game, and it gets easieer once you start upgrading your weapons.

It was refreshing to have to actually move around and think about positioning myself to fire back at enemies, and I use all the weapons all the time throughout the entire playthrough. The hover board races, rail grinding and puzzle games with clank added enough variety and challenge to keep things interesting. Its a solid game experience. Too bad they don't make games like these anymore. I do love Ratchet now. I love that it's hard.

I bought the PS4 remake in 2016 and was having a hard time in some places as well, but does having beaten it mean I can say I'm good at Bloodborne?

The thing with bloodborne is that it's a JRPG, so you can level grind your stats and weapons if you hit a wall. Its a very obtuse game that doesnt explain its systems very well, especially to new players, and coming from previous souls games, it was made to challenge veteran players of those by taking away magic and defense, so I don't blame anyone for having a hard time with the game at all. You can also summon NPC help or co op with friends to help you out. The first two bosses are a nightmare to be honest, but if you get past those, it prepares you for the rest of the game really, so its kind of a tutorial.

With ratchet, its more that my weapons are very weak or that I run out of ammo in tough spots, especially during boss fights which is annoying. I cant imagine playing ratchet on hard. OMG!

Yeah, Blake has told me time and time again that the first few areas are actually the hardest and act as a kind of tutorial, but I just don't respond well to that kind of reverse difficulty curve. I'll get to the game eventually, but I need to finish Horizon Zero Dawn and Gravity Rush 2 before I go back to games I wasn't initially liking like Bloodborne and Witcher III

As for R&C, I got the hang of certain weapons and using ammo wisely before the last boss well enough that I was able to get over the difficulty curve, but I'm just going to say that I definitely needed a certain unlockable weapon to get past the final boss.

demon souls came out in 2009, so the community has had almost 10 years of playing these games that have built up on top of each other and then BB came out to challenge us. It's one of those games that rewards struggle, although sometimes it feels unfair and cheap, but you can also cheat the game too so its fair, I guess?

What was so bad about Witcher 3? Did you try Witcher 2? I can understand dislike of combat, but the world is sprawling and characters and story is great. BB and Witcher 3 are two of my favorite games of all time.

I haven't played the remake for the PS4, but the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games are some of my all-time favorites. And the difficulty ramps up in each game. But oh-so-fun!

the remake was free on PS plus last month. It is a very pretty game. Its more like old school hard that Im not used to seeing nowadays. Had to change my mindset to stupid 90s kid to get into it.

I won't pay for PS+. I have my reasons. So I didn't get it for free. I dunno how I feel about having it remade, either, but I'll have to play it because I need a comparison. It'll make a great blog topic, something I'm short on these days.
