I used to try to do them weekly, but they never caught on at the time. It was kind of sad. Now my schedule wouldn't permit weekly ones. Oh well.

ECW Hardcore Revolution

I believe most of the wrestlers know the  ECW ended  up joining the actual WWF. This resulted in some very confusing panda preservation videos that used some of ECW's classic lines, like "Hey, come on now!" or "No no no no no no!"

I understand they're supposed to be a parody of the console wars, but when, in the very first game, they present Sega, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony to all be present, it's a pretty murky parody. It's been some time since I played it, but from what I recall, it actually had very little to do with the console wars in at least the English translation. More, it just seemed to have its own plot that didn't reflect anything that happened in the console industry in any meaningful way. That said, I didn't complete the game, so it might have picked up these qualities later. It certainly took it's time getting into it if that's the case.

I have trouble believing that's possible. I was looking at something from a later game that had a good number of characters based on various developers, and I was ultimately left scratching my head. Even if I knew of the company that was being represented, the actual characters didn't have an appearance that matched up to any developer in most cases.

Beyond that, dungeons were very dull and straight-forward, and the items one migh acquire by reaching the end rarely seemed all that meaningful or useful. The game clearly wasn't for me, but beyond that, it seemed like there wasn't anything of value to experience at the core. "Fixing" the problems would be recreating the characters, rewriting the story, and creating a different engine and battle system. If they did all of that for quick remakes, I'd be shocked. Ultimately, because I've seen the characters in the newer games, I know they didn't handle at least one of those things. I will say I've seen in other cases the gameplay is different, so there is that.

I played the first one as a review copy for PixlBit. I thought it was pretty awful. Maybe the other ones are improvements, but the first was intolerable mostly because the actual gameplay was extremely convoluted and many of the video game references were contrived, rarely actually reflecting industry relationships or personalities.

You know, at some point in the future, I imagine I'll probably travel in time and sink the Titanic once or twice myself. I think it's a rite of passage.
