The Simpsons Arcade Game and Final Fantasy V will be Free to PS Plus Subscribers

Yello!

Earlier, Xbox360Achievements.org showed a list of achievements for an XBLA version of The Simpsons Arcade game.  Since then PlayStationBlog.com has published an official release revealing that both it and Final Fantasy V will be free for PS Plus subscribers in February.

The list of Xbox achievements is worth noting since it makes mention of using the Japanese rom, indicating that both the Japanese and American versions of The Simpsons Arcade Game will be playable.  The most notable difference between the two is that the Japanese game is easier due to lower enemy difficulty, increased health items, and the ability to jump while holding weapons.

The achievement is also called “Mr. Sparkle,” which is just fantastic.

The Final Fantasy V version will be the one originally released on the original PlayStation hardware as part of the Final Fantasy Collection.  This release features two full motion videos and a memo-save feature (allowing you to create a temporary save file when not on a save point) not included in the SNES original.  The game does, however, include slower load times as made necessary by limitations of the original PlayStation hardware.

On top of all this, Sony will also be giving away the full version of Far Cry 2 for a very limited time on the week of February 14th.

A complete list of games, discounts, and perks is available at the PlayStation Blog.

The Simpsons Arcade Game never got a home release so this is a great offer. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy V, even if its the PSone version so Plus members are really lucky in February!

Having never played Far Cry 2, this really makes me happy.  The Simpsons and Final Fantasy V are icing on an already delicious cake. Sony has done well in incentivising me to keep my plus subscription current.

This Simpson's game makes me so nostalgic, for a number of reasons. Fantastic.

The PlayStation version of Final Fantasy V also has sound issues. But I guess it's hard to complain about a free game, especially if you don't have a handheld that could play the superior GBA version.
