I think I might be done with Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. I'm stuck trying to get to Bowser's Castle. You can't go across the rope bridge 'cause some monsters throw you off it, and I've searched every part of the map for alternate routes or some clue as to how to get past them. I suppose I would persist if I felt more positive about the game, but I'm kinda bored with it. It's a very light RPG with all the stats applied for you. You can wear equipment, but I haven't come across anything new in a while. The battles are pretty easy. I mean, I like the new special attacks and all, but I'm pretty much mopping the floor with everything I meet. The other thing is that the world seems a bit empty. There are a few wandering monsters, some platforming, and some obstacles, but very quickly the maps are empty of things to do and you just run through them. I don't know. I guess the game just isn't grabbing me. I think I might return to my backlog. I got so much stuff I'd like to play and trade to reduce my collection to manageable size.
I couldn't come up with an alliteration for both Friday and something game-themed except fragging, flanking, and I'm not really a huge shooter gamer, so ....
In a good way. Today marks the half way point (sorta) for Blog a Day so if you've make it this far you only have 2 weeks and 1 day to go and the 1 day is because this is a year of the leap.
Well, not much in the way of gaming today. Our 5yr old has the Tummy bug and we were up with her most of the night. I took her to the doctor this morning to get her some medicine to help with the vomiting. I may be able to get some games put in today while I watch her.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody! I got you all Valentine presents! New game reviews from the site I write for! Just what you always wanted, right? Well, at any rate, I hope you get to click on the links and read the articles, and maybe post a comment or two. I’d appreciate it. In particular, check out my PAX South write-ups. I went to PAX South in San Antonio, TX the weekend before last, and I took a lot of pictures. And stay tuned to the end of this blog for some Valentine’s Day fun, too. Thanks for reading!
For Canadians it's $41.59 but I imagine it is less in the US.
My free rental last night at red box was Deadpool for PS4. Must have had it because the movie comes out tomorrow.
There was a Retronauts podcast I listened to today all about the PSP. I clearly remember getting one to play Untold Legends, a kind of Diablo-like action RPG. I wanted to play it co-op with my friend Mark over wifi and we did that, playing the first game in the series to completion. It worked really well, but I kept bumping the slider on the right side and disconnecting myself from the wireless. Battery life wasn't great, so I think we both had our PSPs plugged in.
Fighting games can be complicated beats to understand. When learning one you don’t just have to understand the systems and rules presented in the game, but also the systems and rules developed by the players that exist outside of the boundaries of the game (the “meta-game” as its also called). The balancing act of juggling these systems can be madding and is one of leading deterrents from people getting into fighting games. So there are reasons why games like Virtua Fighter are so important to the scene. Virtua Fighter isn’t a simple series but its one that’s simplistic nature has helped shaped the series through out its 20+ years. No better game in that series upholds this exemplar than Virtua Fighter 4.
