This morning a Microsoft Store opened in the King of Prussia Mall. This is the mall I've been going to since the arcade years. I couldn't get up early enough for the grand opening, where they probably handed out swag, but I went there in the afternoon hoping maybe I'd see Major Nelson, since he sometimes appears at new MS Stores. No dice there; however, I saw the Xbox One, 500 GB, being sold for $300. I couldn't resist. It was mine. See picture below:

Yokai Watch, The Game and Show

Ive been enjoying Yokai Watch for some time now, they started the first season of the show here in the US back in October and we got the 1st game just this Friday. We are way behind compared to Japan. Im hopeing though it will pick up in populairty here because Id like for it to stay around. I was the only person who preordered the game in my area of Fort Worth. The show is pretty good with several adult themes and the game in some ways plays similar to a pokemon game but the way you catch Yokai differs in that you have to befriend them to get the medal and the game sort of plays out like the show. It has senarios that it breaks itself up into. You of course can do what you want before tackling any of the goals. I figure they did it like that to give you freedom but to also give you a path as well when you wanna work on story stuff.

Good morning Pixlpeeps! Today is the birthday of the inventor of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax. Without this guy I probably would have played the trumpet in marching band from grade 5 all the way through college.

A good year for games for me, not so much in other areas, but there's a few worth mentioning.

Recently I reviewed Transformers Devastation, and it got me to thinking about the franchise.  When I was a kid in the 80’s, I was pretty big into Transformers for a couple of years.  Ever since I was a kid I always wanted a GOOD Transformers game that was truly based on the cartoon.  And now we finally got one with Transformers: Devastation (although I still like Fall of Cybertron better).  So in honor of the release of this long-awaited game, here’s a blog about my top five favorite Autobots (good guys) and Decepticons (bad guys).

Hey Pixlbiters, any good, recent driving games?

I'm looking for something in the vein of Outrun or other "world tour" games. Open road instead of racing courses, no laps, nice scenery is a plus, as much about enjoying the drive as winning. Something from either last gen or this gen.

"Lets go back to Doom and Bioshock: Infinite and the idea of "assuming a role." These are game pawns you control. They are the shoe in Monopoly. At best you are joint role-playing these characters along with the script writers and voice actors. Even when playing with a premade PnP character at a convention, I get to choose how to express their personality and mannerisms, their voice inflection, I get as many ways of handling a situation as I can come up with within the limitations of my avatar, etc. Even when that premade character's personality is defined for me, I still get to be the writer and performer. The closest video games have come to this is allowing you to choose from different dialogue choices, choose a win pose, shit like that. Doom and BI offer none of this. They are weapons in space, tank turrets you control."

Taking a bit of an unintentional break from Citizens of Earth, as I've been forgetting to play it the past few days. Been preoccupied with watching videos of WWE 2K16 for PS4 and neglecting to use my 3DS for anything else. That being said, I probably won't be getting the PS3 version of the game as it looks like an only very slightly updated version of the previous one and I only got it because it was cheap and allowed me to qualify for free shipping on Amazon.

Yup, I did it. And I'm already sucked in, even though I didn't finish the first game. It felt so damn good to be back in these games though, I had no idea how much I missed it. I quit playing the first one on my PSP, and never picked it up again cause I got the Vita.

Not much going on in the gaming end of things lately. Spent most of the last two weeks getting ready for the annual three day trip I refer to as the "Ranger Retreat" at friend/neighbor/co-worker/honorary little brother Michael's family's camp with Michael and Andy. Normally, I get Jason to stay at the cottage with the pets, but he was starting a new job and his days off changed. This meant cleaning and tidying the cottage for the pet sitter, as well as working and getting ready for the trip.

First day back to work and it was hell, but then again I was not actually ready to be back. So many things felt wrong, and some things were actually wrong. End of the shift was a kick: I was double checking if the manager that asked me to take care of a few things included prep (essentially things readied for lunch) and she listed off what they were. I did this gig for years, including prep, and despite her knowing I’ve worked here long enough she just booted up in tutorial mode.

"Another thing: I think a lot of people are very pedantic about the terminology. They focus on the"role-playing" part, take it too literally, and overlook the "game" part. They say things like "Stats don't define role-playing."  No, but they are part of the fucking game aspect.  Couples role-play in marriage counseling, but it's lame. The game part is what makes it the thing, gives it a firm structure, keeps it consistent.

There is also lack of respect for terminology, origins of terminology, purpose of terminology. I've never accepted the "language is fluid" idea. In practice this has been the case, but that means any person or group can massage words to fit their own agenda. People are not honest, don't act with integrity, don't care about consistency.  Terms become political or cultural weapons. Someones unmade bed can be called "art" now, and action games can now be called RPG by those who want to think they have more sophisticated taste than the next guy. Because RPGs are like sophisticated and stuff, like Mass Effect 2..."
