Well-- I told myself I'd never participate in another Blog A Day challenge because when I finally participated last year on 1Up, the site closed down just when I was hitting my stride. So I cursed BaD's name while shaking my fist in the air as thunder and lightening crashes in the background.
I still don't think I'm particularly good at self-description, but here I go anyway.
All of you dedicated bloggers have me inspired to at least try participating in BaD this year. I’d never even considered taking part back on 1up (where I wasn’t all that active anyway), but I figure I might as well give it a shot this year. Since I know I won’t have anything too interesting to talk about from my daily life for an entire month, I came up with a gimmick – and one I’m excited to undertake.
Not to be confused with Game Log a Day (GLaD), which is something I created last March as a new thing for Pixlbit, and was remade into something entirely different by coolseltzer, I think (I was just making journal logs for past games, he was making logs of games he played on the same day he blogged), The GLAD It's The Weekend posts I'm planning will serve as sunny contradictions to my "It's BaD for Ya" posts during the week.
While I initially considered the possibility of taking part in this years BaD festivities, I made the realisation that I would inevitably miss at least one day no matter my attempt/effort. This would of course proceed to wreck my usual high spirits and lead me to ask one aggravating question "why did I even bother?". In that vein, I choose victory by avoidance and will step aside before the battle commences (what is dead may never die, perhaps?) and merely look forward to enjoying my time reading everyone elses entries.
BaD blogging on weekends! What's next? Egging your neighbour's house? Getting high on cough syrup? Racing Lamborghinis?
I've decided to do Blog a Day but BaD doesn't count the weekends (right? Right...right), so my first official BaD blog will be Monday but I did want to give a shout out to Pirate Code, the indie game I wrote the soundtrack for, because it's on Mac now. That means I actually get to play through it now (woot!) and YOU, dear reader, should too! I also put up a blog on the Circuit Hive website a while back about writing the soundtrack for the game. It covers things like how I got involved in the project as well as how I addressed the question of what makes a song sound piratey. It gets a little bit into nitty gritty music stuff and I try to relay my thought process behind some of the songs. Here's a preview:
The ubiquity of phone gaming, and it's creeping impact on the console space, are well documented. The extensive use of microtransactions and the like in $60 titles has been a flashpoint in the gaming community for years. My main concern is that it risks devaluing the base game by making the experience more dependent on paying extra--a well-worn tactic in the mobile space (in game timers, paid weapon repair/upgrades, etc.) that is spreading into retail titles. Hell, one of the leads on Forza 5 pretty much said the game was designed with high-spending "whales" in mind.
This is going to a quick and dirty list of games that I would love to see and play on my 3DS. Shall we begin?
Well it's about 6 am right now and I decided why the heck not post in the waking hours of the morning when it's still dark out. Anyways what do I blog about? I guess anything is up in the air. Well lets discuss a little about me. My name is Jon....as if you couldn't guess. I also like Nintendo. (Well duh get on with it you say!) Alright alright...well since the Wii U has been out for a year I figured I'd post my thoughts about it since I managed to buy it and some games. All in all everything cost me $500 plus tax. You might be wondering just what I got well I figured as much so I will tell you.
Welp...It's officially the 2nd month of the year..It's gonna start out slightly busy for me since my Mom wants to pay a visit and drop off some late Christmas gifts to my little brother's former violin teacher.(He kinda quit the violin and is self-learning another instrument.) And it seems like she also wants to bake something to bring there..We
are visiting this Sunday so that's soon..Also going to a family gathering and Brunch on the 8th..So not much time to goof off for the start of the month. I did noticed the BaDs(Blog a Day) Stuff starting..I can't seem to do too many things consistently...Although I've built up a lot of photos and maybe some doodles.(Although I think I showed a fair chunk in my posts..)
Kicking off BaD this year a day early ('cause I'll be actually gaming tomorrow), I decided to revisit a series I did at 1UP way back in 2011. It was on an old profile that I erased so I couldn't just link to it. I did have the files on my computer though, so I thought this would be the perfect time to rewrite it and add all sorts of nice multimedia for Pixlbit. So here goes the epic journey of The Video Games of My Life.
Happy Friday Pixlbit! January is almost done, which means February is right around the corner. Yes it’s time to figure out where to take your special someone, and buy all the goodies. Since I’m single, I like to watch the folks go nuts especially the day before (you want to see something funny, go to a Target the night before and just stand at the Greeting Card aisle). My favorite time of the year is Feb. 15 when the candy goes on sale. I saw this tweet from Syndey Leroux from the United States Women’s National Team, and apparently I’m not the only one
I'm still having trouble with the whole brevity = soul of wit thing. I wanted to update my profile info as if I were a video game character, but got too carried away and wrote 1,955 words that cover a lot of bases as far as what games/systems I've owned/played and the context/time period in which I played them.
