Did anyone else try and get a freebie copy of Watch Dogs 2 yesterday from Ubisoft? The only catch was to watch a minute of their presentation (man this screams Timeshare scam) and then you get the freebies? Well just like everyone else on Twitter, I did and I couldn’t log in because they had problems, and I figured it wasn’t worth the effort for a $10 game on Steam. Good guy Ubisoft (you rarely hear that) had a promotion where all you had to do was register after the presentation and they would just give you the game. There were some problems with that but earlier this morning I looked at the Ubisoft version of Steam and there it was. Cool deal.
Well, I finally knocked Tool of Destruction off Mount Backlog. I might go back for a replay and to see if I can get the last couple of gold bolts and a few more skill points, but that will be later. I moved on to Casey's favorite, A Crack In Time and finished that day before yesterday and did a challenge mode run through yesterday in between cleaning and reorganizing my kitchen area (Death to all ants!!!) I set my timer for 15 minutes of game time after I would finish up one task and before moving on to the next. It was a pretty good motivational tool. I may keep that up, it was quite effective.
My ace farm isn't the wildly gigantic and sprawling one Mark's is. My ace farm is very densely built and organized with roads. I also go for aethetics and want it to look nice. Like, I built a fountain with some benches and surrounded it with banana trees to make a little park between my crops and a pool of tropical fish. It's got to be photogenic. I have an instinct to do that. I'm an exterior decorator.
What games just lift your spirits when you're in a bad mood?
A summer day saw me harvesting my fields in my new tractor. Farm Together is really fun and totally addictive. I ended the game session today by planting a lot of cotton which takes 8 hours to grow. That way they'll be ready when I start in again sometime tomorrow. I'll have to think of even longer growing crops to grow while I'm away from my console during the weekdays. Time never stops and neither does this game.
I recently get the distinct feeling I'm not all that welcome gaming at my friend's place. Not sure what it is, but the fun is somewhat limited. I may start pulling back from chasing rewards and such, simplifying my gaming and maybe even doing something else. I'm trying to get into this community garden. I've enjoyed making my own food so much, I now want to grow my own food as well. Well, such is life, things change. We'll see what happens. For now, I'm still gaming and mostly enjoying it. Here's what my friend and I did today.
I'm still building this library of essential media little by little. I have to come up with the list first and that's what this is all about. I'm going year by year, taking about five years a month to complete it all by the end of 2020. I wonder why sometimes, but it's fun and it motivates me to write, if only very casually.
Namco has just opened up a new wing in their museum, with two volumes of archives including a bunch of 8-bit NES and Famicom games! These two new downloadable collections contain almost a dozen games each. I’ll be your tour guide as we go through the games on these collections. So let’s go!
A week in the life for me in '96: I delivered pizza for Domino's Pizza 'til 2am five days. I'd watch Mystery Science Theater 3000 til 4am or so. I might then get up early to do a 10-5 shift. Then on my days off, I'd play music in a basement in Philly with a few friends I met at a night school jam session. We started a blues band called Bad Tyming and then a punky rock band called Lemonloaf. When I wasn't jamming with them, I'd be at my friend Mark's place to play video games. We would go to flea markets and pick up cheap games and consoles. We had PCs, Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, PSOne and N64. I was also getting into various "cures" like health food, accupuncture and vitamins thanks to the influence of my girlfriend. I was 29.
The gaming I did this weekend after each long day's toil on the Doom Farm.
Good morning Pixlpeeps! I hope you all had a wonderful and safe July 4th! We had no fireworks show in my little town but I did watch a bunch of people shoot off some crazy fireworks all around. The family across the park from me had their legal fireworks that just spin on the ground and a bunch of sparklers. I celebrated in my usual style because I am a product of one of those families who came here years ago looking for a better life and I am forever grateful.
All three of these games I played today have one thing in common, nostalgia. Nostalgia for the old west, for 2D platformers with shooting elements and turn-based rpgs with elaborate stories. All the while I am watching my friend Mark play Farm Together, a game like Animal Crossing that I might pick up myself soon.
This past week I’ve run through all 51 games in the new Clubhouse Games for Nintendo Switch. So today I’m going to do a wrap up with links to all the articles I’ve written as well as my overall general impressions. So let’s begin!
So during my Ratchet & Clank marathon, I've realized that I abandoned this game part-way through when I bought it ten years ago. I know this because I checked the date on my save files. And as Snee will tell you, my OCD makes sure that I play games in order, so that also means that I never played A Crack In Time or Into the Nexus. Oops! I wonder what new and shiny game came out to tempt me away from Tools of Destruction. Or maybe I got to the so frustrated I needed to stop or I was going to throw a controller phase. Who knows what was going through my mind ten years ago.
What would we find on Mars if we ever tried to settle it? I'm unsure if it would be underground water like in my first game today. We'd probably need something more like moisture vaporators from fictional Tatooine. It also, definitely, would not be like the American West circa 1850 like in my second game today. Frontiers in space will be very different than the fictional worlds we've created, I have no doubt.
Out on the frontiers of gaming, life is harsh. You got to fight to survive and do whatever it takes. This day I fought skeletons with a stick, slapped gators with my candy basket, and punched exploding corrosive plants at dinos. It's a wild world out there in the metaverse.
