Totally Radical Reviews!

Hey dudes!  I’ve got some totally radical and gnarly game reviews I’ve written recently over at GamerDad.com.  And a majority of them happen to have an 80’s theme!  It would be righteous to the max if you could click on the links and read as many reviews as you can and maybe post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d appreciate it.  Oh and for the record, I never talked like that as a kid in the 80’s  I think the only people who did were on television.

WORST.  YEAR.   EVER.  I think we can all agree that 2020 has been one of the worst years in our lifetime, what with the Coronavirus, quarantines, riots and looting, and much more.  Some days I wonder if we’ll EVER get through this.  But there is one good thing about this year so far.  We’ve had quite a lot of really good games come out the first half of this year!  Normally I like to write a blog this time of year with my favorite games of the year so far, because the holiday titles and E3 announcements usually take precedence by the end of the year.  Of course, because of the Coronavirus there was no E3 this year, and as of this writing we still don’t know what big games will be out for Christmas.  Just another reason why this year sucks.  So I don’t know how much different my list will be by the end of the year.  But keep in mind that this is my list and my picks only, no outside opinions and whatnot.  And if a game isn’t on my list, it either just didn’t appeal to me or I haven’t played it yet.  Can’t play ‘em all, you know!  But with that out of the way, let’s take a look at my picks.

Happy MAR10 Day!

So I just got back from getting a Whooping Cough shot at the local CVS and I celebrated with a sausage breakfast burrito and I found a new jersey (more on that on Friday…the jersey not the burrito….but the burrito was good). Anyways Happy March 10th or what Twitter is calling it Happy MAR10 Day. I saw that there was an announcement for Mario Lego sets, which seems cool but I kinda want to see a game where Mario is treated like any other Lego Property. Can you image how fun a SMB in Lego would be? Anyways since today is MAR10 I didn’t play any Mario licensed games but I did play…

Nice.

Nerds Without Pants is back again, but we’re still getting back into the swing of things. Since we were on a six week hiatus it’s time to catch up on a ton of games that we’ve played since the last time we recorded before break. That’s right, folks, it’s time for an all Consumption Junction edition of NWP! But be sure to get the Stage Select topic and the announcement of the first Great Game Giveaway of 2020 at the top of the show.

Couch Gaming

As I sit here looking back on what I’ve played during the past week I’ve noticed that I still haven’t really sat down with a “real” game, I mean I’ve wandered back into the F2P area of gaming, and to be quite honest it fits me right now. I really don’t want to jump into a full game where I have to camp out in front of my TV, remember things, and then if I don’t play it for a week I’m lost and lose interest. Right now I’m in a place where I want to jump in for a couple of minutes, play something and then move on. Here are a couple of examples of my couch gaming during commercials:

Well it looks like Nintendo's handheld systems are ending. With the announcement of the Switch Lite and no new games for the 3DS, I'm afraid that we are nearing the end of an era. So, I have decided to take a look back and see what made them so great, pick out my favorite games for each system, and pay some respects to all the great memories I have had with them.

The $260 is Canadian so expect the US price to be considerably less. Frankly I don't think I'm interested right now.

On my last blog post, I posted about the return of my podcast, The Past and The Pending and posted a link. However, I switched hosting sites and forgot to update that url link so one or more of you encountered a 404 screen. The good news is that I have the new url here and a new episode was posted last week. If you're a fan of the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, you may enjoy this one.

So it's been 90s week on my Switch this week. I got Turok a little over a week ago, and then I've also been playing a certain little known PS1 RPG that somehow just found its way onto a Nintendo console over 20 years later. And that got me thinking about the N64.

Normally I do my Game of the Year blog first, and then my blog on what games in 2019 I’m looking forward to.  But I’m going to switch it around this year like I did last time.  Mainly because there are a couple of releases that are coming up quick, and also I want to try and squeeze a couple more 2018 games in to see if they’ll make my GOTY list.  But don’t worry, my Game of the Year blog will go up soon after this one, like in another week or so.  In the meantime, here are some games I’m looking forward to playing and reviewing in 2019.  Granted there may be more as we get into the year and have Nintendo Directs and E3 announcements and such, but here’s some that I know right now.

In 1998, Final Fantasy Tactics got me into strategy RPGs. For years, FFT was the basic template for most console SRPGs. Ten years later, Sega brought the genre into the contemporary generation of consoles in grand style by releasing Valkyria Chronicles in the US.
