Merry X-Mas and Happy New Year

Greetings, Pixlbit folk. Another new year with new games is upon us. I see everybody has been posting their Christmas loot.

My big Christmas haul was a Nintendo Switch with the neon Joycons. It is truly a neat system, and fulfills my wish of having games I can play just as easily on my TV as on the go. All during last generation, I saw so many DS/3DS and PSP/PSV games and thought, "If only they were console games." Guess what the first game I got for it was? Not Zelda. Not Super Mario Odyssey. Not Xenoblade Chronicles 2. No, it was the original arcade Mario Bros. Hamster, the publisher of the Arcade Archives series, is apparently publishing Nintendo's arcade games on the Switch. I know Mario Bros is an old game, but it was one of my favorite games back in the day and still remains one of my favorite arcade games of all time, and it is a treat to get this version instead of all the watered down home ports we usually get. Hopefully Nintendo and Hamster will reach some kind of agreement with Ikegami that allows Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior to be on the Switch. Soon enough, I will get the three games I described.

Other than that, I got a lot of clothes and accessories from a very nice friend here in Arizona. I came to Arizona with little more than what I could stuff into my car - I didn't leave Maryland under good circumstances, and I will leave it at that - and my friend apparently decided she would rectify that situation. This was the best Christmas I've had in a long time, especially with me worrying that the holidays would really suck this year. My friends and family here in AZ have been great, as has my job.

My top games of the year? Honestly, I played a lot of remakes and classics more than anything. FFXII: The Zodiac Age is probably the game I've played the most this year. The only major challenge I have left is Yiazmat. I think I will try to platinum this one. Other great games this year included Yakuza 0, Tales of Berseria, and Ys VIII, its horrible localization aside. I can't wait to dig into Zelda, but I believe that my family is sending that to me so I'm not going to buy it.

For next year, my two most anticipated games are Valkyria Chronicles 4 and Ni no Kuni 2, which are sequels to my two favorite games of the last generation.

Anyway, a belated Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year. 2017 was a huge year of transition for me, and hopefully 2018 will build on everything good that happened this past year.

Transition year for me too and will continue into 2018. Good luck, it seems things are settling down a bit for you. Happy new year!

VC4 and NNK2 are both my most anticipated as well. Maybe Crackdown 3 too, if it actually comes out.

2018 will be my transition year, in all likelihood. I'm wondering whether I'll finish Yakuza 0 or Horizon before it ends. I'd love a Switch, but I never actually play portable systems on the go. The convenience of having a screen right in front of me as I lie down sounds convenient though.

Happy New Year!

Gaming-wise for Christmas I got Mario + Rabbids, Snipperclips Plus, and the new Bubsy game.  All are games I wanted to play, but didn't want to pay money for. :)

I'm glad Nintendo is releasing their arcade games on the Switch.  Makes me wonder about Virtual Console, though.  But I also hope they do the Punch Out arcade games because my brother Jeff loves the Punch Out games and he wants to see how they got started.

In about a week, I'll have a blog up about the games I'm looking forward to in 2018.

Have you tried Yiazmat yet? From what I remember, he's really not that hard, just time consuming. You can even go back and save in the middle of the fight.
