We actually have Kura Sushi here in my area, and I've eaten there. I had sushi and one of those sweet red bean dessert buns. Cold Stone Creamery is local to Arizona (our outgoing governor was its president for a time), and I like their Mario stuff. They have a Mario Kart cake that I would have been all over when I was a kid. I don't eat ice cream as much as I did when my metabolism was better, sadly.

Thanksgiving is coming up, so I’ve prepared for you all a feast of game reviews I’ve recently written over at GamerDad.com. Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe post a like or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. After this feast of game reviews, you should all have nice fat little full bellies when you’re done reading them all!
We’ll start off with something food related. There’s a chain of conveyor belt sushi restaurants called Kura Sushi. When you go there, if you eat enough sushi plates, you can win little prizes! And from the beginning of September to the end of October 2022, you could get prizes based on Pac-Man. So you know I had to go. So on my birthday, that’s exactly what me and my family did! I took lots of pictures, so be sure to check it out!
Yacht Club Games has really seen success with their indie title Shovel Knight. The original game seamlessly blended challenging NES style gameplay with one of the best 8-bit soundtracks since Mega Man. And there have been lots of fun spin-offs, too, like a Smash style fighter and a puzzle game. And now they’re dabbling into roguelikes with Shovel Knight Dig. In the game, the evil Drill Knight has stolen Shovel Knight’s loot bag and escaped underground, and now his tunnels are causing earthquakes up above. So as Shovel Knight, you must dig down to face him! Shovel Knight Dig blends elements from the original game along with some from classics like Dig Dug and Mr. Driller, and presents them in a randomly generated level format where each run is different every time!

Back when I was a kid, one of the local pizza joints we visited at least once a week for their buffet was Pizza Inn. Like many other pizza places, this one had a few arcade machines in the back. You had your mainstays that were there pretty much forever, like Ms. Pac-Man, Spy Hunter, and Arkanoid. But this restaurant also had a couple of machines in rotation that I had never seen in another arcade before, or only once or twice. Some of these titles included stuff like Mr. Do!’s Castle and Bomb Jack. Bomb Jack was made by what would become Tecmo and it starred a caped superhero character as he collected bombs in single screen areas while avoiding enemies. Its appearance at Pizza Inn is what caused me to buy Mighty Bomb Jack when I got my NES. The NES version added some side scrolling elements as well as obtuse hidden secrets that games back then tended to do. There was a Bomb Jack 2 on European PCs, but it was just a reworked Thundercats game. In Japan in the 90s there was a two player Bomb Jack arcade game called Bomb Jack Twin. But aside from an appearance in the Arcade Archives collection, a Tecmo classic collection on the Xbox, and a secret outfit in a Tecmo Wii golf game, there hasn’t been much of Bomb Jack seen since. But if you want to play an imitation of the game, now there’s Super Jagger Bomb, which plays so much like Bomb Jack, from the stage layouts to the backgrounds, that I’m surprised Tecmo hasn’t sued them!
Little Kong: Jungle Fun (Switch)
Little Kong is a young primate enjoying his fruit meal. But he got a little messy and the fruit juices even dyed his fur purple! His mommy wants to give him a bath, but he likes his new purple fur. Help Little Kong run away and escape bathtime in this cute and cartoony continuous runner on Switch.
Aliens have taken over the city and the only ones who can stop them are a blue haired android girl and her friends in the “Chenso Club.” This one reminds me of several different types of games. It has the style and presentation of titles you might see from WayForward or Treasure. It’s got some slight Smash Bros. style gameplay and since it’s a (mostly) single screen action game it also makes me think of Taito classics like Bubble Bobble. But it all mixes together to make a fairly enjoyable experience.
According to the press release I got for this game, the story goes that it was originally made to protest an update on the Xbox 360 menu that made it hard to find indie games after wading through all sorts of submenus and ads. And supposedly this game caused them to fix that. I don’t necessarily remember that particularly when I had my Xbox 360 hooked up. But I know every time they did change the dashboard menu, it would make my 360 start up slower and slower. I miss the days when I could just pop in a game and play. And honestly, most video game system menus aren’t very good anyway. But Game Type DX is a silly horizontally scrolling bullet hell shooter that you can now play on current systems, but reviewed on Switch here.
Maggie is a scientist who likes to experiment with magnetic fields. And luckily for Maggie, she’s also a magnet! Help Maggie by turning off and on her magnetic field to navigate around mazes in her lab.
You have just recently passed away and are now a ghost in the Afterlife World. But you have unfinished business in the real world so you want to go back. You hear about a portal to the world of the living, but it’s guarded by the evil ruler of the Afterlife: Dr. Krull. You must collect eight keys to open the portal in this mix of RPG exploration and…twin stick shooting? This retro-styled black and white adventure game is available on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
You are a cyber ninja samurai caught up in an interplanetary war across a solar system in the distant future. Run, jump, climb, and slash your way through 2-D stages and shooter levels reminiscent of classic arcade and console titles like Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden.
