Sounds like Stockholm Syndrome is starting to settle in lol. Platformers were THE genre back in the day and the licensed ones, even when not bad, aren't going to be the best examples of the genre. But I guess they are the easiest to get now and you're working with what you have.

Was Aladdin the first character to grab a ledge and pull himself up? I feel confident Prince of Persia beat him to it but hey, how come only middle eastern characters could do it?

I've played a ton of Crossy Road Castle with my kids. It is a great bitesize multiplayer platformer. I hope your friend will try it with you.

Cool! I added it to the wishlist. I see there is also one from last year themed about some Shield Hero anime? It's going in the wishlist too! It's always more fun having a theme.

I recently read Jason Schreier's book Press Reset and it covers the two console Epic Mickey games. Very interesting! I'd definitely recommend that book.

We had Aladdin for the SNES (made by Capcom) when I was a kid and it was quite playable and beatable. I've never played the Genesis one.

I'm always telling myself I'm going to replay Beyond Good & Evil but there are so many games I haven't played yet

This game is in my Switch wishlist because it does sound interesting but, you know, I might just...take it off...

I got all the way to the final boss in Shinobi III—playing on an actual Genesis—and could not beat him because he is sooo much more agile than you! Argh!

Rune: Viking Warlord seems like the kind of game I might find one day at a thrift store for cheap. I'll keep a lookout for it.

Oh man, the Murderbot Diaries are so good! And I love Asimov! And I saw in a previous comment that you'd read the first Expanse book! All great choices. I started the first Expanse book at the beginning of last year, thinking I would read two or three of them over the course of the year, and liked them so much that I read the first six books. I still need to get the last three but I am looking forward to reading them. This year has been kind of scattershot on reading so far. Right now I'm reading Jeremy Parish's Virtual Boy Works book.
