Genres We Ignore

Posted on 10/26/2013 at 08:08 AM | Filed Under Blogs

"Casual" games are the only ones my parents play but they've played a lot of them and some have been really good. It's a shame that gamers will ignore or even degrade such experiences just because you're not shooting aliens or whatever. And you're right: If there's a haven for the adventure genre, it's the casual space.

For me, I've tried a lot of different experiences on iOS and have found some really cool stuff. It's definitely a good thing to branch out now and then.

Is The Conjuring Too Scary?

I can't help but wonder how the session to rate the movie went down. I like to imagine four or five old men watching it and then deciding the rating based on how many of them wet their pants during the movie. That seems about how scientific it must be lol.

The MPAA has a knack for showing how useless it is lol. What's the point of a system if the objective facts about the movie are superceded by the subjective feelings of the people that happened to watch it at the time? How can you trust it?

Demon's Souls - 4 Years Later

You probably remember my frustrated blog about Demon's Souls back during the spring. I still haven't gone back to it, though I have gotten a lot of good advice since then. I do want to give it another go but there are so many other things to play (going through El Shaddai right now for Backloggers, for instance), so I'll put it off for a little longer. Perhaps I'll find myself with a copy of Dark Souls sometime. Stranger things have happened...

That's my philosophy exactly. As long as someone plays it, and maybe I will eventually. Hopefully.

OR A CASTLEVANIA RPG!

Hmm, I have serious doubt about how well that might turn out lol

Cary's Top Five Favorite Phoenix Wright Characters

Man, it's hard to pick because there are so many good characters, but I think I'd have to go with Phoenix. His reactions to everything are so funny and I really missed playing as him in the two games that came after the trilogy. I'm glad they brought him back as the main character for this game.

There's gobs of good stuff on there. Seems like whenever I go on there I find something else I like.

When I first looked at this one I saw it was a remix of "Wicked Child" and I wondered what song that could possibly be. But I recognized it right away when I heard it. The song may not have the name recognition of "Vampire Killer" or "Bloody Tears" but it's definitely a classic Smile

In which I ramble on... update.

I haven't kept up with Jeremy Parish's personal writings, which is sad because he's my favorite writer in games journalism. I also have delusions of buying the book versions of his GameSpite stuff but it quickly becomes too much (I'm actually reading through the GameSpite Quarterly on the SNES right now). The Game Boy Kid Icarus, Of Myths and Monsters, is really good, by the way.

I'm playing through El Shaddai right now for Backloggers too. It's fun but very strange lol. After listening to the introductory BA podcast, I decided to take the advice of the special guest and play it on Easy and I'm glad I did. The combat feels about right. I imagine the bad guys probably have too much health on higher difficulties.

Snee pretty much summed it up about Foundation. The original Foundation trilogy is absolutely superb. I've never heard of Philip Jose Farmer though. I'll keep an eye out for his books.
