5/6 Years Later: Captain N's thoughts on Metroid: Other M

Posted on 08/07/2016 at 09:58 PM | Filed Under Blogs

The problem with Other M is that all other Metroid games are spectaclar, and Other M wasn't THAT bad, just a bit on the mediocre side.  The storyline didn't bother me and the Ridley scene, while out of place, didn't bother me much either.  What did bother me was some of the gameplay choices.  Like how you aimed missles for instance.  I felt the Metroid Prime games really did it right, Nintendo should just go back to doing those, or even better, another 2-D Metroid.

Suicide Squad and Skylanders Figures

Glad you got the DK vehicle!  I'll probably skip out on Suicide Squad.

Skylanders Superchargers Figures

I hope you can find the Bowser Skylander as well as the corresponding vehicles for him and DK.  They're really neat.  Of course, as you know, they'll only work on the Nintendo versions.  The upcoming Skylanders game will have a Crash Bandicoot figure, I imagine he'll only be playable in the Sony versions?  Neat thing about the Skylander toys and vehicles is they just scream, 'play with me!'

Track & Field Review

I never got into the NES version, but when I was in school, one summer I attended a band camp on an empty college campus.  The dorm lobby had a few arcade machines, and one of them was Track & Field.  That was where I learned about all the secrets in the arcade version.  It's too bad the DS version of Track & Field wasn't very good.  It had a lot of great Konami character cameos in it, including Sparkster, Rumble Roses, and even Kid Dracula!

Thanks!  Yeah I may not be a video game journalism success story, but I think it's pretty good that I've been able to stick it out 20 years.  Too bad 1up.com didn't last a few more years, or I would have been able to say I posted there for ten years!

I hope so.  I remember when 3D movies were getting big a few years ago, and I was worried about that.  But they still show 2D movies, thank goodness.

DIY Gaming, or where I pretend to be a game designer

I tried some programming when I was a little kid, and then again in high school.  I decided that I didn't like programming and neither did my brain so I figured I'd rather just play games instead.

I'd love to make my own RPG with RPG Maker, but there would need to be 50 hours in a day for that to happen.  I don't have enough time to play the already made RPGs out there, much less make my own.

My "game making experiences" only consist of Mario Paint (I did school projects using that program), Super Mario Maker, and WarioWare D.I.Y.  On the WarioWare game, I won a contest and had my game featured by Nintendo!  It was a horrible game, though. :)

I might try and make my own maps in Gotta Protectors.  Which, by the way, if you have a 3DS, you should download it!

Do you have the Bowser and Donkey Kong Skylanders?

I learned something when I played FF Tactics on PSOne.  I learned that I don't like tactial strategy RPGs. :)

You really understand how it is.  I've done lots of things over the years to try and make more of a career out of this game reviewing thing (I just didn't mention everything I do in this blog, I just went over the highlights as it was long enough as it is).  But sometimes things don't work out the way you want them to and you have to readjust and make do and be happy with what you have.
