Today's the 27th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. 3

Posted on 10/24/2015 at 07:27 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Believe it or not, I played Mario 3 on a PlayChoice 10 months before it came out and even before it was previewed on The Wizard.

Mario 3 is a great game, but it's not my favorite.  I'm probably one of the only people in the world who liked Mario 2 better than Mario 3.  Heck, I also like Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island better than 3.  But 3 did have some creative power-ups.

For me, the best game on the NES was probably Zelda.

Yeah I know you said no LEGO Dimensions, but I'm going to do it anyway, so nyeah!

I think LEGO Ghostbusters would work very well, even though they'd have to change some gameplay mechanics to account for ghost catching and trapping.  But a change in that regard might be good.

The LEGO Back to the Future levels in Dimensions show that the movie doesn't always translate well to LEGO since the movies aren't all about action.

I just got done with the Midway arcade level in Dimensions where I played LEGO versions of Defender, Gauntlet, Super Sprint, and Robotron, and that was freaking awesome.

And the game also shows that a third person fixed camera Portal game really could work.

Other properties that could use the LEGO treatment include The Fifth Element, Futurama, and maybe a more fleshed out Simpsons title.  And everyone wants LEGO Zelda (just play 3-D Dot Game Heroes).

Yo-Kai Watch Demo - Well that was charming as heck

It's on the Disney XD cable channel.  Usually comes on around 4 in the afternoon (Central Time), on Monday or Tuesday.  I have to DVR it because I have to be an adult and go to work. :)

I just downloaded the demo last night and hope to try it this weekend.

I had never even heard of this one!  Sounds like an overhead Mappy game.

Thanks for the reminder.  I'll see about downloading the demo soon.  Have you seen the cartoon yet?

30 Year Mario History Poster

I got one of those when I picked up my copy of Mario Maker at my local GameStop.  It's a pretty long and narrow poster!  Neat thing is that it's also embossed.

What's Your Most Anticipated Game Right Now?

Most of the games I was anticipating this year have already come out and I got them.  I'll be getting Zelda: Triforce Heroes tomorrow, Yo-Kai Watch in November, and that's about it for this year.  I might get Zestiria for Christmas.  Next year we have Star Fox Zero, new Zelda, and other stuff.  I'm sure I'll write a blog about it closer to the end of this year or early next.

2006 Top Ten Lists

The Wii was one of the only consoles I waited in line for.  But it was a fun wait.  I didn't get a PS3 until 2010 or so.

2006 Top Ten Lists

Posted on 10/22/2015 at 07:32 AM | Filed Under Blogs

2006 was a great year for gaming.  One of the better years in recent memory, in fact.  We got Okami, which was my Game of the Year in 2006 and beat out Twilight Princess.  Speaking of which, the Wii was released that year, and even though I ended up liking the 360 better, the Wii had a great launch with titles like Wii Sports and the afrementioned Zelda entry.

2006 also marked the end of a stretch of 3 great years for me.  At the end of the year, I lost my job at the church, which I really liked, and I ended up having to take a job at the end of the year that I really hated.  Sad thing is that I still work there, but probably by this time next year, I won't be there anymore.  One positive thing about losing my job in 2006 was that for a month or two, I had more time to play the great games that year, like Okami and the Wii titles.

PlayStation Store Dysfunction

I just buy points cards at the store instead of purchasing games on consoles via credit card directly.  Don't trust those online shops in consoles (not like stores are any better, I guess).
