Finding the Good in Bad Games, Round Two

Posted on 08/24/2014 at 06:39 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures may be an awful cartoon, but the game based on it is actually a pretty decent 3-D platformer.  I reviewed it and didn't think it was that bad.  They're even making a sequel this year!

I never played Ehrgeiz, but I did play some of Square's other underrated PSOne games, like Einhander, Chocobo Racing, and Brave Fencer Musashi.

Other M wasn't bad, but it definitely was one of the worst Metroid games.

Mario Pinball Land just wasn't a very good game of pinball.  I've played enough other video pinball games to know that.

I thought Pac-Pix was brilliant.  It was actually the very first DS game I ever played, as a demo when they first showed off the DS at E3 one year.

Well he drives a big pink car that's easy to steer and can take a lot of hits, so yeah.

I THINK I remember my brothers renting this one once. But yeah, F-Zero X was much better.  I loved how F-Zero X had a random track generator.  That was a great feature to level the playing field if you had two-player races.  I wish other racing games would adopt that idea more often.

My favorite F-Zero characters are the fat samurai guy who drives the pink car, and Mrs. Arrow.

Lootcrate August 2014

I think one of my brothers subscribed to Lootcrate.  I might have to look into that, although I have enough junk as it is.

I want to try the Lays contest flavors in the US, but I can't find them in stores anywhere.  And I even have close relative that work at Frito!  The mac & cheese one sounds awesome.  I bet it wins.

I haven't watched The Simpsons in a long time, but I did watch the LEGO episode.  That was kind of neat.

Cat-Dogs and Gaming Life

When I was a kid I had a Russian Blue cat.  I wanted to give him a Russian name but I didn't know any, being a kid and all.  So my dad suggested Chekov, after the Russian dude on Star Trek.  I'm not a bit Star Trek fan, but I didn't have any better ideas so we named him Chekov.

Chekov was very smart.  I taught him how to play fetch, open closed doors by jumping up and turning the doorknob, and I even taught him how to use the toilet instead of the litterbox (really).  Chekov also loved to watch me play NES, and would either sit in my lap and try to press buttons on my NES Advantage controller, or he would sit in front of the TV and swat at the moving objects on screen.  If I ever got another cat, I might look at getting another Russian Blue. I might name him Karnov, after the Russian dude from a lot of old Data East games.

Hope everything is going OK with you!  I've been working out a lot lately, too, and feeling the positive effects!  --Super Cary
