DuckTales: Remastered is a Thing That's Happening

Woo-oo!

PAX East just kicked off today in Boston, but we may already have born witness to what may be the event’s biggest announcement.  Capcom has announced that they will be resurrecting one of the most beloved platformers of all time.  That’s right, DuckTales is making a comeback this year.

DuckTales: Remastered is a collaborative effort between Capcom (publisher of the original 1989 release) and Wayforward Technologies and will be released this summer on XBLA, PSN and the Wii U (presumably on the eShop).

Considering the game’s cult status, I imagine that this news will be well received within the PixlBit community.  Heck, only a few weeks ago community member Aboboisdaman had posted an entire blog on the game.

Check out the trailer posted above and let us know your thoughts on this announcement!

Hey,I'm looking forward to it. A Scottish duck that hoards wealth? Who doesn't like that? I used to watch the show. Thought it was very funny and clever. The game is in good hands with Capcom.

The original is one of my all-time favorite games.  I honestly can't believe this is happening.  So stoked.

hey, thanks for mentioning my blog. This looks great. I'm so glad to hear it's coming to psn! DuckTales was a major reason why I had bought a NES again after all these years. As long as the Moon theme is in there somewhere, I agree with Julian and Nick lol. Laughing

I can not believe Capcom is remaking this game with the help of WayForward.  It's just a tremendously welcome surprise.  The timing is crazy, too, considering I started watching the DuckTales cartoons again about two weeks ago and I just purchased DuckTales 1 & 2 for the Game Boy last week.  Anyway, it's nice to know that I'll have some more DuckTales to enjoy in the future.

Also, I'm happy to see Jake Kaufman is providing the soundtrack for this game.  After the work he did on Double Dragon Neon, I can't wait to here his takes on DuckTales' classic tunes.

He is? This is fantastic news! The Double Dragon Neon soundtrack is the best thing to happen to video game music in years.

When I saw that little bit of news at Siliconera, including the bit about the cartoon's background designers contributing to the game, I was more than happy.  Capcom and WayForward seem to be putting a great deal of effort into this remake (which makes sense considering the legacy of the show and the game), even going as far as to get some of the original voice talent back (like Alan Young as Scrooge McDuck).  Perhaps they also got the original singer of the DuckTales theme to work with Kaufman.

Neat. Almost sang along... kind of sounded like BrentalFloss was singing it, or at least wished it was.

Hopefully, they don't mess with the gameplay Too much. The footage looks modified from the original game, so I would classify this one as a remake. The original was one of the best NES games, so hopefully they'll be able to do it justice.

I nearly exploded with glee when I read my email about this from Capcom's PR this evening.

This just shows that there is hope for those of us who want something outside the yearly sequel train so let me add my Woo Hoo! to the proceedings.

One of my favorite NES games of all time.  I have it on pause as I'm typing this post (for real!).  On the other hand, further proof that Capcom has nothing else going for them? :(

HELL YES!  Could the timing have been ANY better?  We just did this on RetroRampage because JoeyG329 is a fucking masochist that can beat that game with little to no issue lol.  I am buying this game immediately when it comes out, because Capcom + WayForward = a team beyond that which we can comprehend for the arrival of a new DuckTales.  This is complete victory at its finest.

Opinion: I loved this game. I hid it and kept it longer than my rental allowed. I got grounded for it and had to be talked to on the stairs. One of my earliest addicted to games memmories. Everyone needs a Ducktale.

I took a look at it at PAX, game looks awesome, they kept the feel of the original game but added beautiful graphics with a nice lighting effect. It was running side by side next to Dungeons & Dragons Mystara and stole the show. The line to play it was capped out all weekend.

I really didn't need to have this catchy theme song pop back into my head again after all these years. So catchy...Yell
