They make a higher profit margin on used games than they do on new games, so unless you specify, you're going to get the used copy. Don't blame the employees, they're just following "guidelines" and if they don't, they get dinged for it. Same with trying to sell you pre-orders and all the other extra crap that they push. I once worked for what was a really nice little local chain of video rentals stores that go bought out by a big corporation. Our manager got fired because we weren't pushing enough of their package deals on our customers (who didn't want them anyway and that's why they came to our store). The entire staff quit in protest, and all they did was bring in people from other stores to staff the place.
So yes, Game Stop sucks, but don't blame the employees for the carppy policies.
