The Future of Silent Hill Revealed

Posted on 11/04/2011 at 11:09 AM | Filed Under News

So is the HD collection only going to be a download on XBL and PSN? I imagine it would be, who makes hard copies anymore? Crysis and RE4 didn't even get hardcopy ports to current consoles, despite how awesome those games are, they just weaseled their ways into XBL. I would like to play the HD collection because I haven't played SH 2 or 3 before. If they're only available for download I might just have to suck the sack of the stupid downloadable content trend and go download them for myself. It's lame not being able to hold a game in your hands, especially a good game.

New Vegas Gets an Ultimate Edition

Lol I can't argue with 10$ credit and a fancy cloth map, the map looks pretty damn sweet. I'm still going to wait for the GOTY edition, but that means I'm going to have to ignore any marketing I see for the game because the commercials make me salivate just imagining dragons and Skyrim landscapes. In a game it's often the little things that the programming and engine can do that fascinate me the most, like the new weather simulations and how snow can collect on terrain. When I play the game I'm going to sit and watch snow collect on a road sign or rock just so I can see the system in action.

Amazon is what lured me in to pre-order LOTR War in the North. I got a $20 credit for pre-ordering it and now in a week when I get around to pre-ordering the $40 Halo CE Anniversary, I will ultimately only be paying $20 for Halo. I've been wanting Skyrim for so long though, so I'm going to have to surround myself with a number of things to keep my busy while I wait for the GOTY edition. I've been really wanting to play Homefront and Fable 3 and I might have to pick those up sometime because they're finally at the prices I'd be willing to pay for them on Amazon (20-25$).

New Vegas Gets an Ultimate Edition

This is great news, I've been waiting for this version of the game. I haven't played New Vegas at all yet so I'll be completely fresh and new to the experience. I avoided it not only because of all the bug issues I heard about, but because I knew a mountain of DLC would be available eventually in an ultimate edition, and I had Halo Reach to keep me perfectly content during that Q4 2010 (if I remember correctly) release window anyways. A discounted price (assuming), all the DLC, and maybe some of the bugs were taken care of? If that's the case I'm excited, I'll definitely have this on my radar when February 2012 comes around!

Games I Play on Halloween: A Spooktacular Round Table

I started getting into the Halloween spirit right at the beginning of October. I did another playthrough of the original Deadspace and loved it just like I did back when it came out.

Lol, after that I started a playthrough of Deadly Premonition, I laugh even mentioning it. It's the first time I've ever played some of the game, I bought it off Amazon a few weeks ago. Instead of being creeped out I was just laughing the whole time at the dialogue, cut scenes, and music. I was turning my head to the side, confused, trying to figure out just what the hell was going on lol. It's hard to play mechanically, and incredibly time consuming, but I'm kinda fascinated by it and it makes me laugh even thinking about what I've seen in the game so far. It's so f*cking weird.

New Skyward Sword Footage - Eldin Volcano and Fire Sanctuary

I'm loving the environment design and general art of the game in all the previews that continue to show up. It's a great balance of the realism from Twilight Princess and the bright colors of Windwaker. I for one have never really been clamouring for a darker (literally in brightness and color) grittier Zelda. I think the visuals for Skyward Sword here are just about perfect.

Portal 2: Peer Review Review

I was so excited to hear about the DLC and the fact it's free but I wanted to wait for a review. I only have so much hard drive space and didn't want to waste the hours of download time or the HD space just to get DLC I didn't really want. It sounds like this DLC is pretty awesome though so I'll be happy to check it out.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North Preview

Thanks Jesse, likewise, it's awesome to see you working here! It's indeed surprising how quietly this game is going to hit store shelves. I've seen expansion packs or DLC get marketing that dwarfs this full game lol. I'm sure there's a least a few people that will seek it out, get it, and play it like I'm going to, but in large part I feel like I'm going to be playing a bit of an overlooked gem or at the very least partaking in an cool experience that not many of my friends will be. Back when Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, and both Champions games came out I never saw much of a marketing push for those in my own experience, but I ended up with all those games somehow anyways and loved them.

Nice preview Jesse I'll look forward to your review!

I actually just pre-ordered the game a few hours ago. I remember hearing a little about it from E3 but besides that I seriously haven't been hearing anybody talking about it, let alone see any advertisements or pomp and circumstance for it. I had to simply go to the games website and look at the gameplay videos they have there. I haven't had to go to any games' website, in ever, to get info on it lol. Usually there's enough info floating around on journalism sites about any given game. It seems this game is easily getting lost in the swarm of blockbusters coming out this time of year.

I was planning on Skyrim but I convinced myself to wait for the GOTY edition eventually, and LOTR is one of the games I'm going to use to fill the void. I really love Snowblind and what they've done in the past. They developed Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath, and Return to Arms back on the PS2. That hits home for me because I was actually brought into the general RPG genre in the first place by those three Snowblind games and all their loot filled fun, so I have a place in my heart for Snowblind and the way they design their action-RPGs. I don't expect War in the North to be the greatest game of the year but I'm definitely expecting to dismember monsters, collect tons of loot, develop my character, explore the Tolkein world again in a much more mature way, and have a ton of fun doing it.
