Purging Social Media

On 08/03/2018 at 01:08 AM by Super Step

See More From This User »

I downloaded all my Facebook information, and plan to create a new account while deleting the old one. I also deleted all my tweets and likes on Twitter and am only going to use it to communicate with Nerds Without Pants about maybe guest appearing. Whether that happens or not, who knows.

Once I make the new FB account, I should not be easy to find. Until then, find me here.

That's all I've really got for you, other than there are some exciting leads on jobs I need to follow up on.

How've ya been?

I've been thinking of doing something similar honestly. Haven't even been on Facebook on 9 or so months and only just started using Twitter again.

I use Facebook way more than Twitter and will continue doing so under a different account, since it consists of people I actually know. Twitter is nothing but political bitch fests where I don't fully agree with anyone and everything is a war of words. I'm only using it to message Julian.

I've unfollowed most people who only bitch about followers and only use it to talk to people I know and find out about games and music and stuff. Plus you can filter out tweets with certain words from your feed so mines OK at the moment.

I use facebook a lot for old friends, but I deleted my Twitter the other day. Just sick of that cesspool.

That's pretty much my sentiment.

I quit Facebook in February and I was never on Twitter.

Do you feel better since Feb?

I do honestly. I allowed it to control my life. I was on it constantly never taking a break. I do not miss it.

I mostly only use Facebook to post links to my GamerDad reviews.

I use it to talk with friends when I don't feel like grabbing my phone. Or to vent to a specific audience.

I'm doing well especially since there was football on TV last night, even if it was preseason game. Good news on the job leads.

As for Social Media, I still hold on to Facebook. I don't post much but I have family and friends who still use it so I keep it. Twitter I can't get rid of. I like it too much. When other users are not bitching, its fun to read tweets especially when it's trash talking. Funny thing is that I don't post as much on there anymore.

Ravens/Bears, right? I saw a glimpse of it. Was 17-10 in Q4 when I saw. Thank you, re: jobs.

I understand your Facebook analysis, but could not disagree more about Twitter. The constant bickering is so annoying to me.

Yep the Hall of Fame game. I was flipping between that and the CFL Toronto vs Ottawa. There was more action in Canada.

Yeah Twitter has that side which is terrible. Some days when the timeline looks like that, I skip it for a couple of hours or stick with a more lighthearted topic.

I went to a linkedin/resume workshop and the speaker encouraged people to use social media because it told future employers that you were tech savy.

I still have Facebook for friends and family. I created a Twitter account a while ago but I hardly use it. I had it on my phone but I got so many notifications I had to remove it. A friend suggested I do Instagram but I haven't had the time to check it out.

I have that I taught Adobe Suite and a social media class on my resume, so I think I'm ok there. Also, I'll still have accounts, just not idiotic things I wrote at 18.

Instagram is more for pictures, but I don't really take many. I should.

I really like instagram actually. Very little bullshit.

Right, I keep forgetting I didn't grow up with social media. I'd probably erase my history too because when I was a teenager, god knows what I would've posted.

I was taking a lot of photos, that's why a friend suggested it.

Yeah, I was born in 1990, so I grew up right when AOL was just taking off with dial-up, then AIM became a thing (though I never used it), and then MySpace, and Facebook took off right around when I turned 18 (2008). I should probably delete those Xanga and MySpace accounts while I'm at it, but I'd have no idea what the log-in is.

I lost track of my Myspace account too. I had it up to showcase my band's music but then I forgot which email account I associated it with and I couldn't edit it anymore. Then I forgot about it and now I think it got deleted when they updated it.

Did you or do you still have any of the files? I'd like to hear it if you're ok with that. Totally understand if you'd rather not, but I'd be interested.

I actually had a musical MySpace as well. Turns out, it still exists, but has nothing on it. https://myspace.com/thecolorviolence

I should put the album we did up on Bandcamp. That's easy to share. I'll put it on my to do list.

I'd like to find some people to play with again. I have a friend across the street from me. We jammed once but he seems kind of busy with work right now. I've got to find some time for it.

I've never really used facebook. I created an account years ago and never used it.

The only social media I use is twitter, but thats mostly to follow news sites.

I always thought you were really good at podcasting along with whatsacow. I'd be happy to listen to either one of you about gaming when you're on NWP pod.

Facebook has always been about staying in touch with people I know.

I used Twitter for news, but I can use Google News for that without the annoying commentary.

I appreciate the kind words, especially since it's been so long I've been on a podcast I can't remember what I said and wasn't expecting people to remember. Lol

I still use twitter and facebook but twitter I try to avoid all the BS about politics and drama. facebook I use to mostly post game stuff and keep in touch with family. Social media is such a toxic thing now, its gotten worse and worse. If you can ignore the BS then it can be okay but oh its getting super hard.

Honestly, I just need to not be distracted.

I use FB to keep up with family and friends. I try to stay out of FB drama.

Twitter? I've always had two observations about Twitter:

1. You can't spell "Twitter" without "twit", and

2. "Twitter" rhymes with "shitter."

The Internet would be a lot better of a place if Twitter went under. It seemed to be headed towards bankruptcy a few years ago, and I was prepared to dance on its ashes. But now that it's the platform of choice for a certain individual in the District of Columbia who likes to shoot his mouth off, that is sadly not going to happen.

Super Step Contributing Writer

Well, then. lol

SanAndreas

That's probably an extreme reaction, sure, but things being what they are today, people getting in trouble for being idiots or monsters on Twitter, Gamergate (whichever side you were on), and with Twitter being the soapbox of choice for the White House, Twitter drama tends to cause havoc in real life the way no other social media platform does.

Oh, I don't even disagree. It was just funny to see that much vitriol aimed Twitter's way. I totally get where it's coming from, though.
