Social Media Addiction

is real, especially in quarantine.

Definitely deactivating Facebook and Twitter as soon as possible. Stupid part-time social media job keeps me from just doing that now.

Haven't even gotten any gaming done. At least I had some really good video chats with Blake and co. over on Reading Gamebow Discord.

Now I need to focus on really getting classes prepped for fall.

I've been setting timers on my phone to keep me from getting carried way. It seems to work.

I need to re-download the website blockers I had at some point.

I just check once per day, and im fine. I don't really participate, just read though. Also, social media is a lot more toxic than I remember, so I just stick to specific  site forums.

The Reading Gamebow Discord you're now on is pretty safe, I'd say. I definitely enjoy it more than Facebook and Twitter. Granted, I am much of my own problem on Facebook and Twitter, but I keep that stuff off here and should be able to pull back a bit now that I'm (kinda sorta) free to roam (a little).

the frustrating thing I find about social media is that usually I look for like-minded opinions to share in something, but usually immediately goes negative with counter points and goes into debate territory which is exhausting. Ex. I like a specific Final Fantasy, game. Responses: Actually that game is awful. No one likes it. Then followed with an essay about why you are awful and stupid for liking it. Ex. Do you like Ocarina of Time or Majora better? Responses: A Link to the Past ( which is not one of the choices).

Yeah, and I think algorithms are set to attract people to negativity.

Yeah, it's definitely addictive, and designed that way. I check Twitter two or three times a day, but I mostly follow Pixlbit people and authors I like, so my feed isn't too toxic. I rarely interact with people, especially people I don't know.

I'm more active on facebook, but that's just my friends.

That's how I usually am. Stupid pandemic.

Yeah with everything going on right now, I 'unfollowed' a lot of my Facebook friends because they all thought they were politicians and scientists and there was a lot of negativity.  I hated doing that, but I was really getting sick of it.  I keep away from posting stuff like that, myself.  I just post my game reviews and occaisionally something I might find interesting game related.  Hopefully you'll still be able to come by Pixlbit and check us out from time to time!

Never left. This is a nice escape.

I'm over Facebook, and just keep it for family and friends. Anyone who constantly posts their polticial beliefs I hit snooze for a month.

Twitter I like, but I've learned not dive into the threads that will frustrate me. I type my randomness, read my timeline and go about my day. I do check it a lot which is nuts.

Instagram I really like because its pictures that friends/family take, funny memes, and other things. I don't deal with stories.

Oh they can be easily addictive but when you have some rules it can be managed.

Very true. Still just deactivating for now though.
