200K Chievos Reached

I broke 200k in achievements on Xbox the other day. The top scorers worldwide are over 3 million. The top gamer on my friend's list has around 400k. My score reflects 15 years of playing on Xboxes. But enough of that, on with what I played this week so far.

Switch

Fire Emblem: Three Houses: I played through the first few fights and wandered around the school talking to students. I think the class distinctions made between the characters (who's a noble, who's a commoner) is an old and ugly social arrangement. I'm not liking that aspect of the story, but I'm going to try and lead my character in my own way as much as possible. I love the tactical battles.

I think I might have to buy this, because I will probably be playing this longer than my rental will allow.

Xbox 360

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure: I finished the main story by collecting the last piece of the crystal of light (or whatever it was called). Chievo attained. I also got a character fully upgraded for another achievement. With those done, I left the game for the week. I have one final level against Chaos to do.

Lego Lord of the Rings: I'm getting the hang of this open world, how side quests are given, and where the story missions are located. It's pretty fun to look at the map and go to places I've read about and seen in the movies.

I had to get an Ent Draught (a wooden mug) in Fangorn Forrest for a quest giver in Edoras. Then I found out that if I hit Pippin over the head with it I'd get an achievement. I did so and Pippin's head swelled up like a balloon. Sorry guy, the chievo made me do it.

Xbox Series S

Elder Scrolls Online: Played for Game Pass rewards points, again. I had to play for an hour and did so. It's not bad. I continued a character I had from last time. I'm not that thrilled with the menu system. I had a quest related item, a whistle, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to play it. Maybe I didn't have to, so I went to the location I needed to go to and nothing happened. So, I took the first boat out of there and got a different quest escorting a guy into his home that was infested with Daedra so he could ask questions of his dead wife. Fighting isn't too bad. I just mashed away and cast random spells to win. I have little interest in continuing with this game outside of Game Pass rewards points.

Farm Together:

farmtogether

I put up a scarecrow where the workers will work from when I unlock them. Placing items raises the level of your farm too. I have four 13x13 fields now for trees, flowers, crops and animals. The fish pond works differently and can be much larger. I played until I had an hour wait for a crop. I planted some wheat (takes a day) and left.

Gems of War: Rage quit this abnoxious free-to-play manipulative nonsense! I spent a good amount of thought improving my team and what happens? One of my first AI opponents immediately groks everything I'm doing, comes up with the perfect counter, and annialates me. Not only does the AI know everything going on mathematically in a nanosecond, but it definitely cheats and knows what's coming off the screen. It's incredible! I've witnesses it many times: gems disappear for no reason, the AI plans a move with clear knowledge of the future, and it stops whatever you're doing as if it could read your mind. Granted, this doesn't happen all the time, but whenever you need a win, or are up against a strong foe, this stuff starts happening. Ugg! I can't handle it. I'm done for good.

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II: Oh, I got killed trying to relearn the controls. Seems my reanimated skeleton helper is a yellow bellied coward. You'd think it would be grateful for another chance at life - or some semblence of life anyway - but no. Enemies target you relentlessly. It's hard to be a character that shoots from a distance or wants to keep back to organize the battle with summoned undead. This game seems to be telling me to be a Dwarven warrior instead. No thanks. I'm done for now.

Power Wash Simulator: Finished cleaning the Treehouse and started on a Church. I got a bit bored, so I went after an achievement by replaying the Van cleaning mission. I had to clean it with the 0-degree nozzle. This shoots a narrow stream of water, so it's hard to clean large areas quickly. It wasn't that hard to clean the Van with it though. Chievo and out.

Assassin's Creed Origins: I am so into this Discovery Tour Mode. I went through all the Egyptian pyramids, learned about the roman military, how to make a mummy, cultivation, fashion and trade. I found horses to ride and did the tours on horseback. Unfortuneately the horese are a bit skittish, and when I got close to a cliffside and wanted to see the ships down below closer, my horse lept over the side.

Poor horse. I painfully tumbled down the cliffside and into the water where I comandeered a boat and got back to town. The horse swam off on its own. I found another though and rode it everywhere it would fit, even inside buildings.

Yeah man, horseback is the way to go in ancient Egypt. I have only a few more tours to go before I decide if I'm going to actually play the main game or not.

Well, that's part one of this week. I'll record part two on Friday perhaps.

Fire Emblem is such an awesome game. One of my favorites of the decade.

I quit chasing achievements/trophies years ago. Too many of them required what I felt was boring, repetitive busywork. The only game I ever got a platinum trophy on was FF7 on PS4.

I am going to buy it any day now. I'm finding it hard to wait until I'm done my rental. I also want to build a Switch library.

I pick and choose. An achievement that becomes busywork is dropped. I've been using them lately as a time limiting tool and a way to create goals. But, if I'm really into the story of a game, I'll just focus on the story until it's done, then look at achievements.

I like to get achievements and tropies, but I won't go out of my way to get them if they are too hard or not fun or if I don't have time for them.

The only games I got all the achievements for on the 360 are the Banjo-Kazooie re-releases and Dig Dug.  On the PS4, I've gotten quite a few platinum trophies on games I've reviewed that were easy to get.  But the only game I purposely got the platinum trophy for was the Klonoa Fantasy Reverie Series collection.  I really like those games!

It's great when you just get all the achievements/trophies because you love the game.

Yeah I forgot how much I liked the Klonoa games.  They may not be on my top five favorite games of all time list, but they MIGHT be on my top ten.

Klonoa and Rayman Origins/Legends are the only platformers I think seriously about playing.
