Machine Memories: Sony PSP

I got a PSP for Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade, an action RPG you could play co-op via Wifi. My friend got a PSP too and we played the game to completion with only occasional drops in connection and most of those because I kept hitting the wifi slider on the side of the PSP. From there I looked for strategy and RPG games. I always felt those worked best on a handheld, but the PSP showed me even action and racing games can play great on a handheld device.

PSP

The system could do a lot of things. You could play music or movies or download digital-only games. It was an all-around media device, although, I only used it for games.

Series I first experienced on the PSP were: Patapon, Lunar, Star Ocean, Untold Legends, and Ys.

It seemed like every major game franchise on console put a port or original game on PSP. I was interested in a few like: Chili Con Carnage (from Total Overdose), Gun Showdown (from Gun), God of War Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta (God of War), Burnout Dominator (Burnout), and Valkyria Chronicles II (Valkyria Chronicles).

I’d love to get back into the PSP but all my batteries have exploded. I can still play with the power cord however.

TV Time! Comerical. What are those animated blobs?

I guess we're all lucky Sony never made a TV version of its White PSP billboards. Or did they? Embarassed

Yikes. I had forgotten about that ad. What were they thinking?

PSP was just okay for me. Some good games on there, but so many held back by being designed with a second stick in mind but being on the PSP. Didn't get that issue with the DS where games felt designed with it in mind. Still, RPG lineup delivered and I've been having fun going back to its early ports like Crazy Taxi and NBA Street.

They did port a lot of console games to the PSP without much thought. I loved the games clearly designed for it.

I love the screen on the PSP too. Same with Vita. I just needed to find more to play on both of them.

I got the PSP a couple of years after it came out, once there were enough games I wanted to play on it and review.  Aside from the Neo Geo Pocket Color, the PSP is one of my favorite non-Nintendo handhelds.  I think I even like the big bright screen on it better than the Switch.  Although I haven't tried the OLED Switch yet.

Some of my favorite games on the PSP include Loco Roco 1 and 2, Ys Seven, Work Time Fun, Half Minute Hero, Mega Man Powered Up, and many more!

Oh man, you remind me of the time I was playing LocoRoco in the passenger seat of a moving car and starting to get really sea sick with the way the game tips the horizon line around.

It had a lot of good RPGs, but honestly, most of them should have been on PS3 instead.

I agree. I like the lush graphics of most RPGs to be displayed on a big screen.

Has MGS ACiD 2, which was actually a pretty good tactical card game, and Syphon Filter on it. But overall meh to me, wasn't long before I sold it on ebay.

I always wanted to play the MG ACiD games.
