It's Thursday February 28th folks and time for the penguin on top of your television set to explode.

I didn't finish my Why I started gaming thread. (damn that Snee!) K, here's the condensed timeline.

From the N64 on it was was basically all systems all the time. I bought a Playstation for my daughter on her birthday along with the first Crash Bandicoot. Seems to me that my wife and I got more use out of it than she did.

My wife loved Crash, she played all 3 of the Playstation games and was a regular participant in family CTR sessions.

Blasphemous as it may seem we loved CTR more than Mario Kart. :O

The Playstation is where I first discovered my love of turn based RPGs.

I hated Final Fantasy VII when I first played it. Mainly because I didn't understand turn based battles and I couldn't make it past the Scorpion thingy in the Midgar reactor. To hell with reading what I should be doing I'll keep attacking until it dies. Didn't have much luck with that.

I took the rental back to the store in anger and swore I would never play a game like that again. Well we all know how that worked out. LOL

The Dreamcast was released on 9/9/99 and one of my co-workers was an early adopter. I went over to visit and he got me playing Soul Calibur. Even though I'm not big on fighting games that game blew me away. I knew right then I had to have a Dreamcast.

So guess what my son got for Christmas that year? Sonic Adventure, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, RE Code Veronica the list goes on and on. I loved that console to death. Literally! We went through 3 of them in 2 years.

The PS2 was the first console that I ever bought just for me (as far as my wife was concerned anyway).

One of the first games I got for it was Primal. While that game doesn't get a whole lot of love I adored it. The writing was brisk and funny and I loved the characters and the story.

This is odd. I was looking up Box Art for Primal and discovered a PS3 version of the game that I know nothing about. LOL It's fan art and wishful thinking from the look of it.

Looks cool though.

Anyway, that's as far as I'm going today.

Enjoy your Panda!

I bought a ps1 for FF7. After being blown away by FF6 I couldn't wait to see the next installment. I wasn't disappointed. We played the Crash games obsessively. I agree about CTR. That game is fantastic. I find Mario Kart games boring. Although Mario Kart 64 is one of my favorite kart racers.

We used to alternate between CTR and MK 64 some nights. Good times. :)

I could comment there, but I'm going to comment here.  It took me a while to get into FF7 too, but once I did, damn I love that game.  It might be overhyped but it's still one of my favorite games of all time and I play it once a year.

Soul Caliber sold me on a Dreamcast too.  I saw it at the mall and had to have it.  I played the hell out of Soul Caliber.  The soul still burns!

I got Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure, Code Veronica, etc etc.  I loved that damn system.

Without clicking on your link, I know that it will lead to Monty Python's Flying Circus. I'm a fan of the dead parrot sketch, myself. "He's not dead, he's just pining for the fjords."

Isn't it funny how that first console suddenly avalanches into a multitude?

Rats you uncovered my fiendish plan. Meddling kid! :)

Actually the video embeds properly on 1UP. It looks like it works here but as soon as I post it turns into blank space.

Yes, once you buy your first console, you're hooked. It's a gateway system

"VROOM"?!? Mate, this bird wouldn't "vroom" if you put four million volts through it! 'E's bleedin' demised!

if you reload the page, the video will show up.  it's a little quirky.  But if there's a blank space, it's supposed to be there.  it just needs to be reloaded.  I'm still trying to figure out how to embed soundcloud widgets.

Thanks Matt. I'll try that

It worked.

Soul Calibur blew me away on what a 3D fighter could be like. I loved how you could change the opening cinema. Almost all of the characters were fun to play as. It saw a rerelease on current gen systems minus the Edge Master mode. Soul Calibur V... not so much. =(

Primal was a great game. I loved each unique demon world and the gargoyle side kick who could possess bigger statues. If you ask me Jen should have gotten at least one sequel!

Five F'in Stars Ben. I'd sell an organ for that one.

Jaysus, now I have to be on the lookout for another game...

It's available on PSN for 10 bucks Tami.

I sold my physical copy a while back and immediately regretted it and bought the PSN version.

I haven't checked but if the digital version has the making of parts, there is some great stuff in there. The voice acting was top notch.

Running out of space on my hard drive, so I'm getting very picky about what I download.

It is flawed and there are a few graphical glitches but the interaction between Scree (the gargoyle) and Jen will have you laughing your ass off at times.

I truly hope that in E3 Sony will say we will lunch an Hd versio of Crach or a reboot.

A new Crash game that doesn't suck would be a good idea

Nice, I was actually doing a blog series called My Gaming Timeline back on 1up.

I grew up on Mario Kart, but to be honest, I never got as into any of them past SNES as everyone else did, so your CTR love is fine by me.

Oh, and I still dislike RPGs, but glad you got into them. lol

As for SoulCalibur, my favorite will always be the Gamecube version of II, with Link.

Yep, I have that Gamecube Soul Calibur. er, at least I think I do.

I was a massive fan of the FFs on the SNES, but I actually didn't get my PSX for FF7. I got it for Metal Gear Solid, which I'd read some articles on and was obsessed with. I, of course, played and loved all the FFs after that, especially FF Tactics!

When the Dreamcast came out I still had the N64 and the PSX so I remember thinking there was no way I could possiby get another console, and I'd never owned a Sega machine ever, but I used to rent it. I'd rent Power Stone, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, RE Code Veronica over and over, haha. I loved those games. I ended up getting a Dreamcast in 2011 through a rather funny if embarrassing story, but I love it. I have RE CV for it and it's been a blast playing it. I think I'll get the DC version of Soul Reaver for it next.
