A positive PSN experience

I figure I’ll share this here to add some balance to the usual negative experiences people have online.

I received a friend request on PSN last night from someone who I apparently fought in Tekken Revolution recently. This person sent a message with the request letting me know that I used the character I controlled very well (Lars) and liked that I didn’t go with Law or Kazuya like the majority of players. Simple and straightforward enough but I’ll be honest, the message took me aback.

I guess that it’s strange for me to feel the need to share this or that this interaction even stuck out to me but so rarely do you come across someone willing to complement you online. I’ve played quite a lot of Dead or Alive, Tekken & FIFA on PSN over the past few years and I could count on one hand the number of positive messages I’ve received after winning/losing. We all know what the typical experience is: *Message received from dICKhEAD69* - “Go fuck yourself and die!!!!!!!!”

Lovely.

Anyway, it’s nice to know that even outside our Pixlbit community, gamers exist who are not complete and utter skidmarks of humanity.

Hopefully, as gamers mature and this feeling of online invulnerability fades away, we can all look forward to these positive interactions becoming more commonplace. I’m all for em.

Later

Thats neat especially because its so hard to type with a controller.  Or maybe he had a keypad or something.  Still, there are decent people out there thank goodness

It's good to know we're not alone Matt. Not all gamers are asses

Unfortunately there is no age limit or IQ requirement for on-line gaming and internet access.

That's one of the reasons I don't play on-line anything. I restrict my communications to a small number of sites. Of course most of it is done on one site in particular. You get 3 guesses and the first two don't count.

This is what I found on Google Images, so this is what I expect in the mail, Canardly guy.

To me it looks like that backwards car that was advertised alongside Minority Report.

Alot of the dickheads are kids. Unless you play with friends, you cant really filter out assholes from online gaming-- which turns me away from online gaming actually and why I solo MMOs. Pay it forward. Return the kindness and you might get it back.

My friend recently had her first experience with a screaming, cursing eight-year-old now that her fiancee is living with her and she can hear that stuff when he plays. I hope to God a) most of the Internet's vitriol is just stupid kids and b) those kids change when they grow up.

By the way, Mart22, whoever stole my username to tell you to go fuck yourself and die owes the both of us an apology. Dickhead69 was my idea and I want to be the only person using it dammit.

I get psn mails from Dark Souls heads here and there...especially when helping people kill phantoms trolling in Darkroot.  A little bit of good vibes goes a long way

I've sent nice messages to people in the past who beat me in games and it's a good feeling to send too. I don't know why we don't see more of it. Well actually I do, people are terrible but ya know..... glass half full and all that.

I gave up on gaming online with strangers a long time ago.  It's nice to see there are some decent people out there. Cool

Hey I play online games on occasion and I hold myself in decent regard Tongue Out

There's dickheads everywhere and it's sad that it's a) kinda the norm and b) accepted by society. Humanity is fucked up at times for sure.

Glad to hear that.

My online experience has been normal so far, except from some ocations in Team Fortress 2 where there was one abusing the voice command to put Dubstep during the last minutes of the match, and one time where the stereotypical annoying kids entered a session. Atleast I haven't received an insult myself.

I don't play online shooters but that'll change with Destiny later this year. I'm sure it'll get pretty bad at times. Such a shame.

Very nice. usually I don't get much contact from anyone over PSN when it comes to online games or the F2P game offered right now. I can't even get a peep out of anyone when I play Ace Combat Infinity. Aside from some interactions on Playstation Home, it's mostly silence. it's nice to know that there are some that go the extra mile and comment on someone's "breath of fresh air" actions in multiplayer matches.

Yeah absolutely. Hopefully it's not the last positive experience I have but I get the feeling my next big multiplayer game Destiny will attract slightly different personalities
