Did you play on ps3 or Vita? When I played on ps3 I did terribly, but the Vita was like night and day. I think it has to do with the lag on the tv.

I wrote to some of the other comments here that if you wanna learn Kanji, check out Wani Kani. They do a spaced-learning system and everything really stuck for me. I realized after a week or two I knew a good 50 kanji or so. It's free to level 3 so if you have a chance, give it a go! :3
You should try Wani Kani! It's a site from the people that run Textfugu and it teaches you Kanji with SSR learning patterns that really makes them stick, it's amazing!
