Today's theme is work songs. Most trades where there were groups of people working together doing jobs that required specific rhythms ended up creating songs that helped them keep the rhythm and stave off boredom. Sea shanties and prison work songs are probably the best known examples of these types of songs. Sea shanties are frequently and unfortunately sung way too fast, especially when the singer doesn't have the knowledge of why the rhythm is important. Sea shanties came in different flavors, too, each type associated with a different task - hauling sails, turning the capstan, pumping the bilge. I don't know enough about them to tell you which is which, but I bet if we tried them out doing those different tasks, we'd figure it pretty quick, lol. I used a lot of videos and songs from people I know in this one, mostly because I know that these versions are fairly authentic.
Programming Note: To date, I am halfway through Final Fantasy IX on my Quest. Next up is Final Fantasy X (PS2), then Final Fantasy II (GBA), Final Fantasy XII (PS2), Final Fantasy III (DS), and finally, Final Fantasy XIII (PS3). If you're just joining us, I have played all these games many times before, but I'm going in order of US release date for the quest, hence the number jumping.
So some of you may remember a week or so ago I had fired up the N64 and found that Donkey Kong 64 and 1080 Snowboarding would glitch after a few minutes of playing. I mentioned that I had been fiddling with the A/V cables (now that I remember red goes in the middle, there should be a lot less of that in the future) and turning the console on/off several times trying to get it to work, as well as the fact for some reason I always seem to have to turn the DVD player on then off to get full image and sound... I actually don't think that's entirely true, and next time without any A/V cable troubleshooting, I don't think that'll be the case. I need to work on getting my color-coded wires down before I fail to diffuse a bomb and kill myself. After that stunt I pulled on my neighbors with the HAL 3000 two blogs ago, It's only a matter of time, really.

E3 is only a few months away and this blog entry may contain rumors. Some rumors may hit the fan, others will not.

This is a game you should play. Why? Because it's fun, that's why! It's one of those upgraded retro games like Pac-Man Championship Edition. The gameplay is more like Galaga in that you're shooting aliens that fly across the screen. I bought and played the Playstation Network version for $10 and had a really good time.
So this was my Silent Hill Downpour review but for some odd reason, when it posted the live verison it pretty much deleted everything except the top first lines. Ill try again tomorrow on posting it before work. It will be too much of a headache to try again tonight.
Im working on Silent Hill 8ths review but i thought a lil bit of silliness from it would be nice. I got a kick out of some of these pictures that seem to run through facebook.
Well I have bought several games since my last Vol of this blog. I recently purchased 3 games and while 2 are ones I had had previously I bought one I had never played before. Ill go more into that later though. I have to start with my Updates!
It's Wednesday, and good grief, my productivity is out the window. Classes went fine today, but after gorging myself on some good, solid titles yesterday, my appetite for gaming seems to be back in full swing. Maybe this warmer weather has something to do with it, too... hmm.
Last month I bought Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry 3. I recently posted my spoiler-free review of Bioshock to let you know how the game turned out, and once I was finished I hopped right into Far Cry 3, an open world stealth action shooter that I've been looking forward to for some time. Playing these two games back to back is a lot of shooter to take in, so I also took a break from the shooters to get some strategy and RPG time in lately as well.
It feels as though it has been raining nonstop for the past 3 days up here in milwaukee. I go to work, it is raining. I leave work, it is raining. From what I can tell, it is supposed to continue raining.
